And I have also been playing Goldeneye the last couple days, having a blast. Took me a little bit to get used to the controls on Switch; for a while at first they feel really counterintuitive and hard to play with (I was actually disappointed with the port because of this when I first started playing), but have kind of resolved in my head that essentially they're identical to how they were on the N64 controller--except the middle handle of the N64 controller is now the left joycon, and in the absence of the 64's yellow C buttons, the right stick is doing that job.
Anyway, lots of fun, even though aiming is a heck of a learning curve. The more I play, the more I improve though, so that's nice. Guess I have to re-learn it all over again, just like I did the first time around as a kid.

Was playing a lot of Roguebook recently since I got it on the GOG sale. Very addictive. I think I like this even better than Slay the Spire, since the art is beautiful and you play with two characters who can have nice synergies.
And since I like Klei games and their art style, I started on Griftlands. Pretty brutal.... Kind of a choose your own adventure book with card battles. It has an interesting story and also offers several characters and lots of side quests to make re-plays unique.

And I have another great recommendation for a nice little very addictive Indie game: "We who are about to die". Action Roguelite about being a gladiator. With fully implemented physical combat system. I usually HATE these difficult battle games, but this one sucked me in. I always had a weak spot for ancient Rome (ever since our last year school trip). It is difficult, you will die a lot, but it is FUN. And the game was made by just one guy! Very impressive. I think it is very well made, and yes, there are crashes (I suffered one so far) but it is just a minor inconvenience because when you start it up again, your character and progress are saved. This game is absolutely ideal for when you are in a bad mood and just want to bash in some heads. And I think it is nice to support a capable little Indie developer.

Spider-man: Miles Morales I put this one off for a while, cuz I heard it was kinda short for the price. Honestly I think it's a decent length. I find I prefer shorter games these days.
Everything that was great about the first Spider-man, but with some tweaks and refinements here and there. The stealth feels more rewarding, the bases aren't as padded, and the Side mission App with some more hand crafted events was a nice addition.
All in all, I enjoyed it a lot, but man did it crash a lot. Ironically the buggiest game I've played in recent memory.

Yakuza 3Another one under my belt. ( Now just 4 5 6, Paradise Lost and Lost Judgement to go. :S ) I've been playing it intermittently over a few months, so I was surprised to see the play time only clocked in at 40hrs. The Orphanage back drop gave it more of a laid back vibe than 1 and 2, though I was little bummed Sayama was written out. It was nice to finally play a full game with Dragon Fighting style, rather than it being a bonus side style. I am very happy to announce that Like A Dragon: Ishin is the game #1000 in my Steam library (which really ballooned these last few years thanks to Fanatical bundles). Yakuza 3 probably the one game in the series I struggled the most to get through. Absolutely loved the stuff with Okinawa, though. Really gave it a unique flavor I missed in the other games. I'm waiting for (much bigger) discount before I pick up the PC port of Miles Morales. I've got the PS4 version, and I adore it. Yeah, it's a "short" game but also consider that it's endlessly fun to just... propel yourself through the city as Spider-Man, and that the visual effects for nighttime and winter snow are just... unparalleled. It's not a game you play for the story or combat, or at least that's not what I'm there for. First and foremost, it's a flight game.

Lately, I've been bouncing around back and forth with my gaming.
The big one I've been playing is Fire Emblem: Engage. it's over the top, and a little on the cheesy side, but as a celebration of the franchise it works very well bringing back the lords of the franchise as virtual steroids for character growth. It's got me itching to play the older games in the franchise, but I weep at having to purchase Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn at their insane prices.
I've polished off Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon a weekend or so back. The gameplay is good enough, but some of the design choices are certainly strange (You have to kill off vast swaths of your army in order to recruit the bonus characters, in a franchise known for permanent death and keeping your characters alive. How that got past the drawing board is beyond me) between that and the graphics being a substantial step down from the previous hand held releases, it's not surprising that this almost killed the franchise in english speaking countries.
Up next is Fire Emblem: Awakening and Fire Emblem 7: Blazing Blade. Two of my favourites in the franchise.
On a completely un-Fire Emblem note. I've been playing a bit of Theatrythm: Final Bar Line. Good fun for a rhythm game, but it's final fantasy music, so that absolves it of any and all sins. Lots of DLC support too, though I expect I'll limit myself to just the chrono trigger songs.

Finally jumping onto the Final Fantasy train with FFXV, which has been pretty fun so far. Not completely sold on the characters, and the open world feels very sparse, but the combat has me really engaged, and I'm invested in the story for the most part. For those who have played other games in the series, what would you recommend from 7 onwards (apart from 11 and 14, as I don't have interest in an MMO)

Wanted Dead, like the concept but the gameplay needs a polish as the combat is sluggish.
Hogwarts Legacy, I'm not a massive Harry Potter fan but this game is freaking awesome.
Atomic Heart, I rage quit this thank god it was on the Xbox pass.

Started playing Roadwarden, and really liking it so far. It's basically a text adventure game (though it does make use of some pretty evocative pixel art) that feels loosely inspired by the old Quest For Glory games: it's basically an adventure game with some RPG aspects that affect what you can do and how people in the world interact with you. I'm currently playing as a pagan warrior trying to escape a troubled past.
I usually play as wizards in RPGs but thought I'd go with the purported easier-option for this first go-round, as the game also has survival mechanics (which I typically find nothing but annoying). In addition to balancing your health, you've also gotta balance hygiene and hunger, and maybe there are other things I'll discover later.
The RPG aide of things is inventory, equipment, side quests, NPC reputation, and lots and lots of dialog options. Adventure side of things is puzzles (often requiring specific objects to solve), too many fetch quests, and also (believe it or not) an actual, honest-to-God text parser. I know! And it works exactly as well as text parsers have ever worked, in any game, ever.
Really enjoying the game so far, but if I have any one big criticism it's that it's VERY exposition-heavy. It's a pretty generic high fantasy setting, so a lot of that exposition is... not terribly interesting, and you have to wade through a lot of it. Or get to. Everyone speaks in paragraphs, and you can ask everyone for their life story. Seems like it might be a big problem for playthroughs.

Been playing the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters since they dropped on the 19th.
I made it to the Ice Cave in FF1,but my over reliance on the auto saves meant I got softlocked there and have to go all the way back to the fight with the Vampire in the earth cave.
Finished FFII last night, Boosters helped get this one done in the course of a day and a bit. I've always enjoyed the plot, simplistic now, but for it's time, fairly detailed, and bloody though. I've got a handful of monsters to kill and about 20 or so chests to go back for, but turning off encounters will make that a breeze.
Working my way through FFIII last night, It's the one in this lot I've got the least knowledge of, only finishing it once back on the DS. Fun so far, just waiting to get more jobs though.
All of them look and sound fantastic, the mixes are excellent and I love the fact that you can switch from the original to arranged OSTs in the settings.
I'm still a little sore that the bonus content from the GBA remakes aren't present, particularly Soul of Rebirth. The only one that actually added to the plot of the game and dovetailed in quite nicely with the ending of the original version of II.
I'm looking forward to 4-6 and those should hopefully keep me busy until Tears of the Kingdom drops in mid may.
The nicest part is that with the lack of voice acting in these games, is that they're perfect to play alongside my Big Finish listening!

I'm looking forward to 4-6 and those should hopefully keep me busy until Tears of the Kingdom drops in mid may. I picked up FFVI on a Switch, too. Debated grabbing the bundle but figured that by the time I got around to the other games they'd probably have been put up on sale, as SE tends to do discounts pretty soon post-launch. I did recently start going through VI on Steam, but Switch is much more convenient, so.... Anyway: mainly chiming in here to reinforce the enormous anticipation for Tears of the Kingdom! It's looking really, really good! I only hope non-silly-looking weapons are viable, too. Ooooh yeah, Big Finish pairs so nicely with grindy JRPGs (or roguelikes). Been playing Octopath II, and it's main sty beats are voiced (remarkably well, too) but it's also pretty grindy so I've been listening to a bunch of Benny audios while I play.

I listened to so many 8DAs and MRs while playing BotW and P5R... my memories of the two are permanently intertwined, I think. EG I was listening to To The Death while mucking my way through that godawful bank dungeon.... and I distinctly associate Doctor Who and the Pirates! with Akkala.
Speaking of, let it be known that as of today, after 5 or so years of wandering about, I have finally fought and defeated the beast that was Ganon! Just in time for TotK, I hope. Managed to 100% shrines, gear and quests... but gave up on the EX Sword Trials.
That last boss battle was especially difficult for me because I wasn't intending on doing it just then, but I was in the Castle looking for those Royal Guard outfit pieces and wound up at the top of the castle with a good half-hour before I had to do anything, and I figured, "what the hell?"
Only for, about halfway through the first boss/form, my dog to wake up and decide that it was playtime for her, too. So I killed Ganon with a great big yellow dog crying, pawing at me, and slobbering on my face.

Very excited to discover that the shrines in the new Zelda game are, in fact, TARDISes.

My attention span is quite short at the moment, so I was looking for some colourful and interesting games to play. So I have been playing on and off: Dave the Diver This drew me in because it sounds such a weird idea. It is a side- scrolling diving simulator where you battle Lovecraftian horrors of the deep and also run a sushi restaurant at the side and have to create sushi dishes from the fish you caught.
It is pretty fun and plays well on my old laptop.
A+ for weirdness.
BROK the InvestiGator Neat little puzzle game.
But man, this gets dark and depressing. Set in a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by anthropomorphic animals (your character, mainly, is a Croc), which is ruled by a brutal authoritarian dictatorship.
Gameplay is a mix of puzzles and beat-em-up.
Very well written. Sadly a bit too depressing for me at the moment.
Ghostlore Discovered this yesterday and immediately fell in love. Asian Action-RPG with colourful pixel graphics. Runs perfectly on my old laptop. You can choose from 6 different characters with different skills (I immediately went for the animal summoner / caster).
But the main draw for me was: All the monsters taken from Asian ghost stories and myths! I have Chinese and Malaysian friends, and I love ghost stories, and I recognize most of these creatures from the stories of my friends! This is soooo much better than killing the same old goblins and zombies all over again.
It is also unusual for using some unique mechanics for upgrading skills, gaining bonuses and building the skill tree. For your character upgrades, you have to do some mind-boggling Tetris- work to get the upgrade runes working best. Cool idea! Makes you think a lot how you want to improve your character. The skill tree is also something you have to think and play around with. And then there are the bonuses, which you get when you collect cooking materials in the world and then use cooking recipes (with nice pictures of yummy Asian food!) to put it all together.
All of this just feels so fresh and original and inventive.
Love it.

My attention span is quite short at the moment, so I was looking for some colourful and interesting games to play. I know we have similar tastes, so I gotta ask: do you like MAPS? If so, you might wanna check out Dorfromantik. It's a mapmaking puzzle game -- basically you build a map from a "deck" of terrain tiles, and there are various missions that reward you with additional tiles. The missions are pretty simple -- variants of either create a contiguous terrain of exactly X tiles, or more than Y tiles. And each tile is hexagonal and can have different terrain along each edge. It's simple, colorful, and fun and has been great for me when I've been in too much pain to focus on anything else.

I tried it out, and yes, it is very relaxing and very cute and beautiful and you can play it as relaxed or as challenging as you like. It is a good game. However, I realized that it was too relaxing and quiet and cute.
It did not hold my attention either, because there was not enough explosions and things going on. I realize, I am VERY hard to amuse or to please at the moment. If it is too stressful or too much going on, I am overwhelmed. If there is too little going on, I quickly lose interest totally. It is a very fine line.
Thank you for the suggestion. I know we have very similar tastes, so I always value your suggestions.

Crash Bandicoot (N'Sane Trilogy) Despite being a big fan of Jak & Daxter, Uncharted and the Last of Us, and even other non-Naughty Dog Playstation era platformers, I'd never actually played this classic one through. Now I've 100%-ed it!
It was a fun game with a lot of quirky charm, both in it's cartoony tone and it's gameplay/level design. Some of the Time Trials are brutal. Certainly I felt N'Sane at times. Luckily I got the hardest one out of the way first and the others were a lot more fun.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on 3DS.
Yeah I’ve had this one on the backburner for a long time. Did an initial run back in 2015, got stuck on the Shadow Temple boss. Finally picked up the game again this year, cos why not, and actually finished it! It’s exactly what you expect from a Zelda game and does that well, so I had a good time with it.
