I've always wondered: "What's so special about September that it gets two releases?" So, to me, December makes more sense, regardless of the schedule of other titles.

Maybe Big Finish want to make September an 'event' month? Two big attention grabbing Doctor Who releases, the return of a well-loved series with two well-loved characters by fandom, Charley's return, the return of Graceless and if The Early Adventures are going to be First Doctor based this year, (that Facebook announcement about The Second Doctor did kind of murky the waters), we'll be hearing Jemma Powell's Bababara- it's not a bad lineup for publicity. Maybe, actually looking at their website September currently looks kind of bare. December now looks really busy. Sorry, my mistake. But having two big attention grabbing releases would still make it an event month

September looks bare now. Give it a little time and that could easily change.

Sorry to go off topic, but rather than start a new thread for this question I will ask it here.
I have only ever bought releases from Big Finish as a subscription, but after 204 releases I have decided to not re-new and simply cherry pick releases that interest me. So my question is are the Extended Extras a subscriber only item?

It also makes more sense to me, as the 13th issue of any magazine always happens at Christmas as far as I can tell... well it doesn't they publish every 4 weeks, but you will see them usually marked as "January", "February" ... "December" and then "Christmas", so in my mind at least, I always think its December that has two.

Thank you for confirming that for me. It is a good subscriber extra. It is ashame they don't introduce the same for the 4DAs.

It is ashame they don't introduce the same for the 4DAs. The first season subscription gets you a behind the scenes retrospective for that season. I'm not aware of any other subscriber exclusives though. There are two releases available exclusively through subscriptions, because that's how they were marketed and Big Finish doesn't want to go back in its word. The Four Doctors is available in a sub with 142: The Demons of Red Lodge and The Five Companions is available in a sub with 155: Army of Death. You can also get them as your free gift, but you won't get the script you would if you got the stories they are tied to.

Hm, this makes my BF September look a little sparse. One MR release, War Doctor 3, and Graceless 4.
This in contrast to May, where I'll be awaiting six releases...LOL

This in contrast to May, where I'll be awaiting six releases...LOL Don't forget September is 8 months away at this point. There's still plenty of time for releases to be shifted or announced. Torchwood began September last year and was announced the previous May. Pathfinder Legends: Mummy's Mask was announced just a month before the first release in September. We could be in for another Third Doctor Adventures or Philip Hinchcliffe Box Set. There could conceivably be the second Diary of River Song box set (it was recorded just before Christmas, and there's been no announcement about release dates or content) or the next New Adventure of Bernice Summerfield (again recorded just after Christmas yet no announcement). If there really were only three CD releases scheduled for that month, there'd be titles shifted from the surrounding months to lighten the load all around. The next DWM, due out next week I believe, should have some news.

I always thought it was odd we got double releases in September. November? Makes sense, it's Doctor Who's anniversary that month. December? A Christmas bonus! January? What a nice way to start the year, specially as there'll never be Who on TV in January.

What a nice way to start the year, specially as there'll never be Who on TV in January. I think it was to match DWM in terms of output, they usually put out two issues around September. It started with #73 Thicker Than Water and #74 Live 34 in 2005. 2006 had the two releases, #86 The Reaping with the Sixth Doctor and #87 The Gathering with the Fifth Doctor, linked (The Gathering takes places first for the Doctor, but the main guest star for both story first appears chronologically in The Reaping with the events of that driving the events of The Gathering) and both feature Cyber-technology. After this there hasn't been much of an effort to link the two September releases.

It'd be rather fun if there was a big cliffhanger ending between releases and #220 is released closer to Christmas as an 'extra' Christmas special

This is excellent news, although i still don't share the love for Big Finish as a company that i once had.
