It seems there not at all confident in the book's release. I understand having some trepidation about releasing a novel with The Tenth Doctor Adventures coming up, but it's another thing to actually show it! Why not release the book a month earlier? Surely it means the opposite?
I think this is the 1st time since Night that the BBC have done any direct marketing for BF? To me it read like "enjoy the return in Audio by BF AND in Print by BBC books with input by BF.

Sorry for not replying sooner, I thought I had! It just struck me as a bit rather despondent with it's phrasing concerning Teannet's debut at Big Finish. Isn't J.T. Colgen a well known author in the UK? I'm suprised they didn't hype her up. (The Tenth Doctor returns in May both on audio and in print by J.T. Colgen!, etc) It might have been the mood I read the announcement in

I was a fan of Dark Horizons so another JTC novel is good. I just want to know what other books we're getting next year. More reprints? More Capaldi novels? Any other classic Docs or is the Tenth Doctor book the only Past Doctor Adventure we get next year? We do usually only get one.

I'm guessing the £12.99 price tag is for the hardback version, often the first version of a book published.

It's totally consistent with what the hardback of Dark Horizons / Engines of War / Silent Stars were. Which is more expensive than the smaller size DW hardbacks that come in sets of three and cheaper than the larger size hardbacks of Shada / City of Death / Wheel of Ice etc. which are the same price as yer new Stephen Kings etc. It may be more that you want to pay - and they'll sell online much cheaper anyway - but it's wholly within the norm for these things.

I think part of the issue is no one is quite sure how to market Who in print form it seems. Since the relaunch, the vast majority of novels have been geared toward Young Adult at best and 1 step above kiddie quick reads at worst. The couple full length "adult" geared novels- Wheel of Ice and Harvest of Time were good.. but didn't catch on like I had hoped. I may sound old and crotchety but I really miss the daysd when Virgin Publishing had the license- yes they went in directions no one liked at times but they had some really good stuff as well. I keep hoping the Beeb will allow smaller publishers to run with Who in the way Candy Jar books is doing with the Brig novels... they are utterly fantastic. While I have read and enjoyed novels geared toward "Young Adult", I have to agree that I haven't had great interest in the Doctor Who stories put out in recent years. They seem very dumbed down to me. This may not be in exactly the same category as the new Who novels, but I thought the 50th Anniversary compendium of Doctor Who short stories was mostly a waste of time. The stories weren't very good or interesting, and some of them totally mischaracterized the particular Doctor they were about.

Glad to see Donna getting some love this year. There were not enough Ten/Donna novels. I wonder if there will be an audio reading of it. If there is and Tate does the reading we may have to dub this the year of the Donna.

I can't remember the Neil Gaiman one. I may not have gotten to it. The book was such a slog that I never finished.
