The work they did on those Companion Chronicles style format of audios was so good & so consistently inventive I can't say that I'm entirely happy with what has replaced them. Ah... but are THEY what the replacement is...? Well, I await the reveal of whatever it is that you know that we don't. I miss my monthly does of Dark Shadows.

If it's: {Spoiler} The post-Return to Collinwood 'married Quentin & Maggie' stories that were mooted in that podcast with KLS a while back then i will run naked through the streets of South Shields with joy. And it's bloody cold here, so there's a rash promise for you...

Oh I wouldn't go that far, people have mentioned them before but then the last few days they seem to have been forgotten about. The first post in the Dark Shadows 2017 thread will remind people there's more coming.

I haven't forgotten....just waiting patiently for the releases and/or more news, perhaps even a bit apprehensive that talking about them could jinx them!! I have been so busy in these past two weeks leading up to Christmas that I haven't even listened to Haunting Memories yet, and I'm very anxious to do that, along with catching up with my streamed shows sense8, Stranger Things, The Crown and Versailles! I am way behind in everything!

In which Joe talks about Dark Shadows' history with Big Finish and discusses what to expect in 2017 from the shoŕt story collections and from Bloodline and if we'll ever again hear a certain someone say her name.

It's a fun interview (Joe always gives gives good talk) and really serves to stoke my anticipation for what's to come! I'm rather embarrassed that I haven't listened to 'Haunting Memories' yet--it's strictly due to timing and my crazy life schedule at the moment--and when I listen, I like to have NO DISTRACTIONS). I'll get there shortly. Perhaps this weekend. It's a long weekend for me--we have Monday off for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a national holiday in the States. Saving 'Haunting Memories' gives me something to look forward to while waiting for the next short story collection, and of course also for 'Bloodline', and for anything else that may be coming our way (boxsets!!!!!!)! Thanks for the heads-up on this interview, even though it's not a Collinsport Historical Society podcast.

Speaking of podcasts on another thread, is it just me or has the Collinsport Historical Society dropped off the face of the planet? There hasn't been a new podcast since last year, and they were coming fast and furious for awhile! I miss them! Maybe Robert can give us some insight, since he contributed many of them from interviews with the actors and producers. Of course, it's not just his that are gone...there have been none from Wallace McBride or any of his CHS cohorts either.

Maybe Robert can give us some insight, since he contributed many of them from interviews with the actors and producers. Of course, it's not just his that are gone...there have been none from Wallace McBride or any of his CHS cohorts either. Well, I’m still doing podcasts when I can. But really there has to be a reason to do one. The main reasons for doing one are a UK recording (or other gathering of interviewees like a convention) or it being worth it at that time to speak to someone from the audio past of DS. The UK recording session podcasts are then usually linked to a specific release so are put online alongside that release. The more looking-to-the past ones are a finite resource and so – obviously – are going to thin out. There’s no way I could keep interviewing people at the rate I was, there’s not the numbers. And really there should be a reason of some kind to get these people in to talk to, otherwise it’s very backwards-looking. I’ve nothing in the can at the moment so nothing pending. But I have spoken in the last week to two people who I want to get together for a threesome. And I have thought of doing my first non-face-to-face one…

Those that have enjoyed my interviews with Matthew Waterhouse in the past (someone? anyone?) may be interested to know that the Myth Makers interview DVD I mentioned further up the thread is now about to be released.
For anyone who doesn't know, Myth Makers are a range of interview DVDs - mostly with people connected with Doctor Who, but some other cult/sci-fi shows too at times, focusing on the person's career and their time working on Doctor Who.
So mostly we're not talking about Dark Shadows, but Matthew brings it up several times throughout and there is a section at the end where we talk about the TV show and about Matthew's acting and writing for Big Finish... and the Collinsport Fly makes an appearance.
I've seen it now.. and it was a much less painful experience that it might have been. I'm really proud of it and would think (hope?) that anyone who fancied giving it a go would enjoy it.
It's available from 1st May from the Myth Makers website but Matthew is signing copies at Galaxy 4 in Sheffield this Saturday and anyone who can't make it to the signing can buy signed copies. And he will be at The Capitol convention in May and the Myth Makers team (hopefully including me) will be there selling their wares.
*switches self-promotion off*
"Going from CASTROVALVA to FOUR TO DOOMSDAY to KINDA...those stories are all very distinctive, all very different to each other...and all really effective in different ways"
MATTHEW WATERHOUSE is best known for playing the alien teenage mathematician ADRIC in two seasons of the original run of DOCTOR WHO, the youngest companion in the history of the series.
In the years since, he has continued to work extensively as an actor in the theatre and in DOCTOR WHO and DARK SHADOWS for BIG FINISH. He is also the author of five books, including a bestseller about DOCTOR WHO and a collection of stories SUGAR.
In this MYTH MAKERS, ROBERT DICK takes MATTHEW back to the locations used for the DOCTOR WHO story BLACK ORCHID and delves deep into this rich history, bringing out an evocative and candid interview about working on classic DOCTOR WHO.

Blimey - it's a new podcast.Lizzie Hopley first stepped into DARK SHADOWS as Ivanka Romano from the gypsy tribe of King Johnny Romano, and became a popular recurring character in Big Finish Productions' audio continuation of the series (even gaining her own Parallel Time counterpart in the 40th-anniversary story "The Crimson Pearl"). Later Lizzie would write two audioplays for the range - "The Carrion Queen" starring Jerry Lacy as Gregory Trask and Lara Parker as Angelique (plus Lizzie as the titular queen) and "A Collinwood Christmas" featuring the return of Ivanka and starring Jamison Selby as Jamison Collins (the character he was named after!). Ian Farrington, having been the editor behind Big Finish's successful Doctor Who: Short Trips book range, was one of the first people asked to contribute to the new range of bite-sized Dark Shadows short-story audio collections. "The Missing Reel", a Quentin Collins story set in the world of silent movies, was so popular he immediately returned with "On the Line", a one-woman play for Nancy Barrett, where Carolyn Stoddard takes a telephone call... from Carolyn Stoddard. They recently joined me in the studio to talk writing (and acting) DARK SHADOWS. As we discuss all their stories, spoilers and plot endings are revealed so be warned... Ian also fills me in about life in the Big Finish production offices and reviewing popular culture one piece at a time whilst Lizzie talks TV and Triffids and tells me how she juggles writing, acting and performing stand-up comedy.

Fun podcast, Robert! I’ve really missed these! I love Lizzie’s work and found her to be a breath of fresh air, and so nice to learn a bit more about the talented Ian!

Between this brilliant podcast and the newest Big Finish release, it got me to come out of the shadows. I have so enjoyed the Collinsport Historical Society podcasts, getting teasers on audios to come, hearing from past writers and actors in the audios and some of the original series actors too. Thanks again for all the hard work you must do to make these fantastic podcasts.

The Tony and Cassandra podcast is now up at The Collinsport Historical Society.TONY AND CASSANDRA ARE ASSIGNED BY ROBERT DICK In June 2016, David Darlington, co-producer of Big Finish Production's DARK SHADOWS ranges, and I flew to New York to attend the Tarrytown celebrations for Dark Shadows' 50th Anniversary. When the fans visited the Big Finish tables, they all had requests for what they'd like to hear from the range... "Something with Julia", "More Tony and Cassandra", "Quentin and Laura in Eygpt", "More Tony and Cassandra", "What Happened Next to Adam", "More Tony and Cassandra"... All weekend, over and over, we were asked for further adventures of Tony and Cassandra. And it wasn't just us... when we were chatting with Lara Parker and Jerry Lacy about the stories they had both recently been writing for Big Finish they told us they'd been delighted by the requests for more they had been getting. So make more Tony and Cassandra we did. David and fellow co-producer Joseph Lidster got to work on The Tony and Cassandra Mysteries and - with script-editor Alan Flanagan - assembled their team of writers and a company of actors who could take on the guest roles in all four plays. And over in LA Jerry and Lara got ready to crack four more cases, this time joined by Jerry's wife, the multi award-winning Julia Duffy, as Tony's secretary Rita Channing. I attended the UK recording sessions and spoke to Davy, Joe and Alan... and the four writers and four guest actors to see what mysteries I could solve myself.

Excellent podcast, Robert! My love of 'DS' and what Joe and David have done for it is no secret, but I'm also proud to support their other work as well. The 'Quartet' series for What Noise Productions has been excellent! Thank you for this sit-down with Joe. Love him and his passion and enthusiasm for his work, not to mention his creative genius and humor, which is evident here. I hope one day to meet him in person and thank him for so many hours of pure joy and damn good listening--although I think he knows just what it's meant to me! Anxious to continue onto the next one with David. Nice work!
