It's hard to call - I was waiting for release for the Torchwood story but others (eg Planet Mondas) have already posted on it. Who'd be a reviewer!

This is an enjoyable story and worth listening to the extras for Lalla's thoughts on Budapest. John Dorney was wonderful in this and I found both new female characters intriguing. I liked how people reacted to the vampire hunter as well!

Unfortunately this one just didn't do it for me. I don't want to point the finger at anyone in particular, but there was a certain tension that was woefully absent throughout. Scenes that should have been dramatic or frightening (or any other emotion, for that matter) weren't given their proper due; it was like everyone was just banging off their scenes to get it done and go home for the day.
Definitely not a high point (IMO, of course), which is emphasized all the more by the release of such a stellar story yesterday.

While this release isn't my favorite February release (that would be "Aquitaine"), this is thankfully a rather strong release for the Fourth Doctor. At the very least, I like it a lot more than I did last month's "Wave of Destruction." It was well-paced, was a lot less dialogue heavy, and I found myself able to identify and follow all the other characters besides the Doctor and Romana. An enjoyable release, for sure.

I enjoyed this quite a bit - I could hardly not be delighted by Tom and Lalla but I thought Marc Bonnar was really good in this also and it seemed like the determination he managed to give the character also lent a strong air of unpredictability which really helped bring out the suspense in the story. Agreed with others that additional characters in the story were also well written and performed so that they were easily accessible and were easy to stay focused on.
I'm not sure I want to compare this to the season opener as I think they are both different sorts of stories from each other that are strong each in their own way. In fact, I think this small departure frames the first release in a better light - the first seemed rather "cute" which is perfectly fine but this thankfully didn't seem so "cute" even while it still seemed pleasingly witty.
Last, I appreciated the name Zoltan Frid since as a Dark Shadows fan I stand at attention and salute the name Frid, so I was gratified to see the homage to the actor who played the original Barnabas Collins. I hope no one no one takes to be a shameless plug for the Dark Shadows range, but I'll be happy it if does draw any extra attention to that most wonderful Big Finish series.

I really liked this episode. There was a real sense of danger in this one, and I find that's not easy to do in these 4th Doctor stories. And between The Eleven and Zoltan Frid, I find that I am quite quickly becoming a big Marc Bonnar fan.

Awesome story by Eddie Robson, creepy with strong supporting characters, Tom & Lalla were on sparkling form throughout & Mark Bonar is quickly becoming the go to bad guy of Big Finish.
Another excellent Fourth Doctor audio drama.

Well, just like the 2016 MR, the 2016 Tom Baker range is off to a great start. Another excellent episode.
Is it just me, or was the conclusion both in and out of character for the 4th? They clever trap being in-character. The possibly out-of-character bit being that he must have realized it was very likely that Zoltan would kill the girl (head is muddled today; can't remember her name) in setting off the trap ("sun bathing"), rather than that she would succeed in stabbing him in the back. That is, that it seemed kind of like a cold 7th maneuver, in basically sacrificing her to resolve things.

Enjoyed this more than I expected. I had trouble staying engaged with Wave of Destruction a bit that I went into this one not very excited but I thought it was pretty enjoyable. I thought the "vampire" that feeds on information through blood was an interesting concept so while it had some common vampire tropes it still took the story in a different direction. The setting again was Budapest but setting it in the 79 or 80's (confused about the year) feels different from the common tropes
Although I kind of feel it was a bit of a missed opportunity to further explore Eastern Europe in this period. The story was enjoyable but I'd like to learn more about the area and time period. Doing some quick research it seems compared to other communist cities Budapest had a better human rights record than other similar areas.
So long story short I am not sure if the setting of this story was used to its fullest. But other than that I did have fun listening to this one.

I enjoyed this a lot, just as much as last month's release. Two very different stories - this didn't quite embrace the dialogue of the Douglas Adams era the way 'Wave of Destruction' did, but the story itself was stronger. The performances were all very good, espcially Mark Bonner.
Regarding a number of comments about elements of the story not being used to the fullest - this is why, for me, the Fourth Doctor stories really would be a much more satisfying experience as two-disc, four-part stories. The concepts are interesting and dramatic/funny, but deserve more time to breathe. Perhaps there is a financial reason these series are mainly single-disc releases, but I don't think it is an ideal template for them.

This is one of the reasons I would prefer - and would gladly pay more for - longer format episodes with Tom Baker, whether it's 3 or 4 parts. They have to cut some things like that out to fit a full story into the 60ish minute frame

Okay, I listened to this one right after finishing the extras on Aquatine. I liked both entries a great deal. This story had a great buildup, however I did feel a bit let down by the incredibly fast conclusion to the story. Yeah, I've complained before about the limitations of the 4DA format, and I've had loved it if this had carried onto next month to resolve the issue of the 4th Doctor's infection. But we got the magic reset button instead - ho hum. Still the voice actors did a great job here. I think the only plot hole that bothered me was why would the young lady try to pass herself off to the Doctor as a Dracula hunter - how would she even know that the Doctor was even worth the bother of that subterfuge.

I enjoyed this one a great deal. Pacing has been an issue with the 4DAs in the past. It felt as if some writers had trouble adapting to the two episode format, with many stories seeming to rush in the second episode to get everything in. It sometimes felt that the stories were crammed with enough ideas for a four part story and then savagely paired down to be a two parter. This story was perfectly paced, though. The villain was fun and there was enough time to develop all of the ideas properly. Nice creepy atmosphere, good score, strong cast, and a clever way for the Doctor to outsmart the villain made for a great time. I hardly noticed the hour pass. This will go down as one of my favorite 4DAs and will get many re-listens.

I agree with mrperson, paz & agentten, I'd rather have 4 Fourth Doctor releases in the 4 episode-2CD format than 8 60 minute audios as several of these 1 hour dramas feel slightly rushed in the storytelling, it'll be interesting to hear the next story as thats a 4 parter spread over two releases as is the finale.
