linkEve Myles has tweeted that she will no longer be playing Gwen Cooper. From what I can gather, she missese Torchwood not being a television show. Shame, if it means no more Big Finish for her.

Why is this not making big news online?
Terrible news and really kills my enthusiasm for TW. Gwen, not Jack, has always been the main character.

Trying to stay positive, reading her twitter feed, I'm really hoping this was just a bad weekend rant not a sober reasoned decision. here's hoping she changes her mind.

I didn't say anything about BF - I mean news in general among fans. Surly this has been picked up?
If you read her other tweets and responses it seems clear she wanted to do a revival TV series (she cites Netflix) and that just having Gwen solo on audio isn't working for her. Shame.

Sorry Davey, I misunderstood. In the wider media they might not know (or even care) that she was doing the audios. Looking at the tweets some people think Gwen's been gone for years. If it is the case, I wonder if that will have an impact on BF going forward with Torchwood - whether Gwen will just be "away" or if they stick with earlier timelines. I also wonder if this is a recent decision or has been known for awhile ... Cheers Tony

This thread was up for 2 hours without a response so that's what I meant by the story not making news among fans For me Torchwood has just lost one of two indispensable members. Neither are my favourite, or have had the best story but to tell contemporary Torchwood stories without Jack or Gwen? We'd best get used to digging into pre-TV continuity, I think. Hey - it might give other characters the chance to shine and the stories will no doubt be solid as always but it's a brutal blow.

I am actually surprised and maybe there is some misunderstanding.
I haven't been listening to these but I've read a few tweets and she seemed to really enjoy doing them.

Never is a long time, if Torchwood audio's remain for years to come, then she may change her mind. There was a time when Tom Baker was never going to do BF.

This one is the most telling, I think. She's grateful for the success of the audio but only on screen again will it be "new Torchwood" seems to be the inference.

She's not been very ambiguous, not sure where the misunderstanding could be. Here's another one She is replying to fans on Twitter. It's not exactly official. She seems upset that there isn't a revival series so maybe she just means on TV. Or maybe if she does mean at all she will reconsider. Like Jason said Never is a long time.

Yes it is. Just ask Jackie Lane. She's not minced her words. I really don't think there's been any misunderstanding. She's done with Gwen for the foreseeable. It will be a shame if this means the range on audio is just set almost entirely pre-TV series with "dead" characters going forward. Along with Jack, Gwen *is* all that's left. What makes it " exactly official" anyway? I think the actor in question saying "no, I'm done" is pretty final. BF aren't going to put out a negative news story so I think it's as official as we get.

Well, this is very sad. While I'd love to see more Torchwood on TV, I don't think audio is a poor substitute - or a substitute at all. These audios deserve to be seen in their own right.
And I was so looking forward to this rumoured 'series 5' on audio.

I agree, when and actor says "no more" it's as official as it gets, saying otherwise would be like me saying "I'm no longer going to be mod here at Divergent Universe" and people saying, "oh wait till is official to see", hearing that would just wind me up more.* But I do also think that BF will acknowledge, sure not a in a press release or some such, but in a Podcast or the letter page of Vortex, it wouldn't be unusual for BF to say "we've spoken to them, and they are not interested". * BTW, to be clear, I'm not giving up the role here at Divergent Universe

She hasn't made an official statement on social media. That's what I meant by official. I am not saying Big Finish has to officially announce it I mean I guess this is the closest thing.

I remember when there was the initial announcement about Big Finish getting the Torchwood rights, and it was to be announced on John Barrowman's radio show amidst much joy and anticipation.
When the announcement came, is was a very half-hearted thing where John said, in a very low-key manner, that Captain Jack would be back in some audio Torchwood stories. I remember thinking at the the time he sounded pretty non-plussed. It seems Eve feels pretty non-plussed about audio too, which is a great shame. Either television Torchwood or none at all seems to be the feeling here - and I'm not condemning that. It's just a pity, that's all.
The range will carry on without her, of that I'm sure. For how long, I don't know. Great things have been done with the Yvonne Hartmen character, so it is possible to move other characters to the fore.

I will be sad to have no more Gwen Cooper on audio. I really enjoyed the audio story she did.
