I don't think any of the actors suit the heightened melodrama of the time travel eps more than Louis Edmonds. He's been just fantastic in the 18th and 19th century arcs. I could honestly watch the man all day. I love that the Phoenix is back in play. Makes total sense given what we already know about her penchant for reincarnation.
I know our Rob loves 1897 and I can really see why - the stories just rattle through, there's little fat to trim and they've clearly learned what does and doesn't work by this stage. There's a confidence in it, something like Hartnell's third year on Who. You get the sense that everyone is up for it.

Yeah, for me it's definitely a very successful run. Much more effortless, pacy and slick than the 1797 time travel arc. And it even gets a reboot part way through just in case you were flagging.

BTW, don't want to offend any of his fans but is it just me or does Roger Davis play all his roles in the show exactly the same?

Yes, he's not blessed with great range or versatility. In my opinion, of course.

771. Barnabas is NOT impressed by Pansy Faye and I'm even less impressed by her accent. Makes Dick Van Dyke sound lie Ray Winstone.

Oh, the Pansy Faye introduction is amazing. The way Barnabas and Beth look at each other when she arrives is hysterical.

Yeah, it was hysterical Afterwards, I thought John Karlen was great as Carl when he starts hearing her ghost. He was just the right side of really over the top.

804 Charles Delaware Tate has arrived, who I know of course from The Blind Painter. Again - Roger Davis looks and acts exactly the same Easily the least versatile of the main cast. That said I love, love, LOVE Roger being possessed into thinking he's a servant. Louis is hilarious. "Oh, very good sir - I should be delighted to sleep under the stairs"

I thought it was easily his best! Oh, I had forgotten those scenes with Louis Edmonds! He was absolutely brilliant.

I don't even think he's particularly bad on the series - he just plays everything the same way and he's not dynamic compared to the rest. When you're acting with Jerry Lacy and Grayson Hall...you've got to dial it up a bit The star of the past dozen eps has been David Henesy. He's so good as the Petofi-Jamison. Not for the first time he shows the adults how its done

Sorry to say Jonathan Frid has been really bad the past few eps. He's relying on the cue cards for every other line, flubbing like mad and stammering words that, when the other actor reads the correct line, make whole conversations make less sense. He's always been more reliant on the cues than the other main cast (fair enough - he usually gets more to remember!) but this past few eps? A lot worse. I wonder if he was under the weather and soldiering on.

I would love to do a Dark Shadows marathon - however time and the prohibitive cost of the box set are against me. I do have th "Barnabas Collins Episodes" DVD Set and the 1990's series.

The first 200 episodes are free on youtube. Check your local libraries to see if they carry the Collections... 26 in all I believe. I broke down and got the boxed set at $225 a few months ago... I see Amazon has it at over $400 now. Wow.
