Ugh. I was enjoying re-listening as long as it was series 1. Then I got to series 2 and found that they didn't bother to fix the AWFUL audio mastering of the original release. For a definitive/anniversary special release, that's extremely disappointing!

Digi what do you think about the interest quality of its newly created featurette? And, does this 2016 set include any other type of bonus content?

For a definitive/anniversary special release, that's extremely disappointing! I remember people saying similar the first time around and yet I've never noticed this. What exactly are you referring to? I'm not exactly an audiophile, so if anybody would like to jump in here with the correct terminology, please do... You've probably run into this situation before on DVDs/Blu-rays that aren't particularly well-produced; you have to sit there on your couch with your remote in hand, turning it up to hear dialogue, and then turning it down so you aren't deafened by the action sequence that follows. Exact same principle. The people doing the audio engineering have mixed all the audio stems (dialogue, music, incidental sounds, SFX, etc.) at the same volume, so the only way to hear what people are saying is to turn it way up, and then you're promptly deafened by the SFX of stuff blowing up. Cyberman 2 is one of these releases. And it also has the bonus irritation of the master volume level being really low to start with: BF audios in my car can comfortably be listened to with the stereo at volume 20-25, but for Cyberman 2 I have to crank up to 45-50 just to make out what's being said.

Ok, then generally I get exactly what you mean, however I listen to my stuff on an mp3 player and have never had this problem. It may be the direct feed to the ear or whatever

I just did a relisten after a few years and found that the story holds up really well. It's interesting to note that the first two episodes of Series 1 were recorded "live" - the actors just ran through the script in real time (I could be wrong, but I believe that some sounds were played in for their benefit). The only weak point was having a few actors play multiple parts. As talented as they are, the limits of the their ranges became apparent and it became a distraction for me. Series Two, however, remains my favorite. Having a street-level character in Hazel grounded the drama and the expanded cast of characters all worked well (plus very little if any doubling-up on voice actors; makes a huge difference). The real star for me was the soundtrack by Fool Circle. It's tense and has these great 1980s style keyboard sounds and electric guitar. It gives the whole production a "Blade Runner" feel. Check it out: soundcloud.com/foolcircle/cyberman-2-underscore-compilation

I did my re-listen to the Cyberman 1 and 2 box set over the past week, and was once again impressed by what a great story it is. Seems to me that Cyberman does not get enough love.
The plot is interesting and keeps you guessing and listening, the internal monologues by the various characters are very effectively used, and the background music is great and really fits in well with the story.
The end is a bit bittersweet, with Liam and Sam. I'd love to know what happens next, but I get the impression that the set was never popular enough to merit a series 3. And it also seems to me that the very last bit of Cyberman 2 is left ambiguous: The Cybermen retreat from Earth and encounter the androids of Orion and get in a war with them, but not clear what the outcome is.
The last chapter is called Extinction, but the Cybermen don't become extinct, do they? Do the Androids? Or is it an allusion to the desire of the Cybermen to make humankind extinct by turning them all into Cybermen?

I really enjoyed the whole new box set. Planning to listen again at some point. I got this in the recent sale and have completed series 1 not all In the one go but episodically.this is damn good drama and actually far better than Galactica (i have never watched Galactica again) and i know Briggs sometimes gets slated but i found this an exciting and thought provoking listen.I really only knew the Orion war aspect from the McGann audio and the McCoy story and hats off to Mr Briggs each episode kept my attention.Looking forward to the second series

I loved the reimagined Battlestar Galactica. It's not really the same as Cyberman, though.

Without reading: I did like the first one. Got to finish the second for the rest though...
Not a dig at people who like collections, but I'm glad I switch to download only long ago. I couldn't afford nearly as much on CD.
