2016 marks fifty years since Dark Shadows first aired on ABC, and ten years since Big Finish Productions began releasing their own Collinsport audio adventures.
This year, Big Finish will be celebrating those anniversaries with two previously announced stories – Blood and Fire, an anniversary special, and a new 13-part serial, Bloodline.
We’re pleased to announce a third release to celebrate fifty years of ghosts, vampires and werewolves.
Dark Shadows – Echoes of the Past features four new stories read by members of the original cast – with actors Jerry Lacy and Matthew Waterhouse writing for Dark Shadows for the first time alongside two writers new to the range.
“Over the years, we’ve moved very much into doing full-cast stories for the Dark Shadows range,” says co-producer Joseph Lidster. “And, for the anniversary, we wanted to do something a bit different.”
“We’ve already got two very packed full-cast dramas on the slate to celebrate the anniversary,” says co-producer David Darlington, “but it’s good to vary the style and approach – Dark Shadows is ideally suited for small-scale, romantic stories like these.”

Obviously the big sells here are Matthew and Jerry writing for Dark Shadows, but I want to say how brilliant Paul and Philip will be too.
Paul's been a writers' group buddy of mine for a while so I've heard his stuff and he basically is brilliant. Philip wrote an amazing play for the Edinburgh Fringe last year - "Edith in the Dark" which was a great ghost story about the works of ES Nesbitt - and was spooky as all hell. In fact I remember turning to Joe after and going "well, if there's any more Dark Shadows audios you should definitely call him up".
So this is going to be an amazing release. More fun for the 50th!

I've only just finished listening to bobod's podcast with KLS and David and Joe where they mentioned 'Short Trips' style single voice stories, so this is a very timely announcement! And a very welcome one, too. You can't have enough Dark Shadows, in my opinion - and I speak as someone so engrossed in DS books, DVDs, audio dramas and soundtracks that if you cut me I'd bleed cobwebs and shadows. The stories sound absolutely intriguing, too! This is going to be an amazing anniversary!

So this is like Dark Shadows short trips? I call the concept Dark Shadows: Bite-Size. Nobody else does. That won't stop me.

aaaaaaaand ordered! Didn't expect to see those out on the market so quickly. Same here. This is the perfect companion to the full cast extravaganzas we are being treated to this year, and I hope they continue on afterwards. (Vampire) bite sized tales read to us by the very cast themselves deserves to run and run, and I truly hope it does. What a wonderful treat to look forward to. Thank you to all concerned!

Ordered. And now there's a new range option for Dark Shadows. Dark Shadows Special Releases which includes Blood and Fire and Echoes of the Past. Hopefully Bloodline will be joining the mix soon.
Certainly very exciting that these Bite-Sized Stories (I'm rooting for you Bohod and puny things). June is going to be such an incredible month, though I guess if ever Big Finish were to go all out one month, fifty years after the show premiered would be a great time. Then again, we have other 50 years to celebrate if they want more excuses to party- 50 years of Barnabas (1967), 50 years of Adam and Eve (1968), 50 years of Quentin Collins (mostly 1969, though he did start haunting in 1968), 50 years of parallel time (1970), 50 years since the Collins Curse was broken (1971). Just a thought.

I think it's fair to say that the Collins' curse has not been broken. Given Bloodlust and.... well, a certain upcoming serial yet to be on pre-order

This is fantastic! I had no idea this project was so far along already. Sounds like a winner for sure! Pre-ordered both Echoes of the Past and Blood & Fire today.

Ordered!! Love this concept....and 4 new writers for DS!! It's very much like Joe's brilliant "Quartet"--4 writers, 4 stories, 4 readers.

Each Quartet play has all four actors in it - so there's a slight difference to four stories each read by a different actor. And I'd point out that it's actually Davy and Joe's Quartet - but Davy forgot to include me in the "Based on an original chat among David Darlington, Joseph Lidster and Alan Flanagan" bit so balls to him.

If the Short Stories are a proper surprise to anyone then this will be interesting to such people. And it mentions what other plans there currently are.

Hopefully Bloodline will be joining the mix soon. ... not so much a new option but rather the renaming and diversification of an earlier range option -Dark Shadows Music (makes sense as there are no sign that there will be new music releases) Maybe the legend reborn should be moved here from the full cast drama section Whether Bloodline will be here, with Bloodlust or in its own range is yet to be seen

Ah yes...I see now. These are single voice readings, rather than all four readers in one story. And you're right, I forgot to credit Davy, but if it's balls to him for leaving you out, so be it.
