Alita battle angel..... Wow.....again how can so much care and attention be paid to the visuals but have they story telling and script of a 7 year old. There is so much good about this film but there is so much wrong too....... Worth a watch....feast for the eyes just don’t expect same for the mind........ I didn't even think it was a feast for the eyes, felt more like watching video game cut scenes. I doubt very much if the planned sequel will be made.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople Taika Waititi does it again. This was a storm.
Jurassic Park The effects have only aged in a few places, otherwise its still magical and seemless
Southpaw Its the standard The Mighty have fallen and must dust themselves off kind of film and a few characters are underserved, but its still a good film

Especially since I have worked and camped in some of these places! It is my go-to movie when I feel nostalgic for NZ...

In The Mouth Of Madness a VERY underrated Carpenter classic with Sam Neill giving a fantastic performance as John Trent. its ok, but the start of carpenter's fall from awesome to mediocre......very much a director of his time the 80's

No it’s made a profit. It had a $170m production budget, plus marketing — rule of thumb is that marketing is generally about 50% of production budget, on top of production, so add $85m for a total of $255m. And the movie’s box office take has been $405m, so it’s been a $150m win for them so far, before it even gets to the home media market. That said, for that big a spend, they were probably expecting quite a lot more. So even though it’s quite comfortably in the black, I doubt if it’s enough for them to chase the franchise they were probably hoping for.

Saving Private Ryan
Wow. Just wow. That was a really, really good movie! I was emotional before the D-Day scenes even started. And boy were they real. The DVD was rated for "Graphic War Scenes", but that doesn't prepare you for what happens. The battles were properly bloody and brutal. I thought the likes of The Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones had impressive battle sequences, but they're not even close to this in scale nor realism. The choreography must have taken weeks of planning. I was visiting my Dad's when I watched it and he has a relatively cheap TV with pretty tinny built-in speakers, so I'm looking forward to watching this again with my slightly better TV and surround sound speakers at home - it'll probably be quite intimidating feeling the explosions through floor from the subwoofer.
The emotional core of the story is fantastic, and the final scene is a beautiful culmination of all the trials the characters go through. Tom Hanks was so good in this; his character felt so effortlessly real. And the score... I played Hymn to the Fallen in a concert band a few years ago*, but I didn't know the context of the film it was from. If I hadn't already been crying by the end, that would certainly have tipped me over the edge. I know it's been said a hundred times, but damn is John Williams an amazing composer. From Star Wars to Indiana Jones, Jaws to E.T., Superman to Saving Private Ryan, his versatility is virtually unmatched (except perhaps by Hans Zimmer, though I'm pretty sure Williams would win a contest between the two).
A highly, highly recommended movie. Perhaps best avoided if you can't stomach graphic violence though; Spielberg pulls no punches in this.
*We even had a choir join us. All up, we had about 100 people squeezed onto a small stage performing it. Even without having heard the piece before, I'm pretty sure there were audience members wiping their eyes at the end.

Big Stan (2007) Still love it. When he tones himself down and lets everyone else go crazy, Schneider is really good. Forgot he directed this as well
Gen13 (2000) Animated superhero movie based on Image/Wildstorm/DC characters. Would love for some to appear in the DCEU, but would need a Team 7 movie first
The Beastmaster (1982) Really enjoyed this. Hadnt watched it in years, yet i always remember the Bat People
The Beastmaster II - Through the Portal of Time (1991) A fun, cheesy sequel. Bit too comedic for my tastes but still fun
The Beastmaster III - The Eye of Braxus (1995) Made for TV Mvoie sequel. Pulls a Highlander and ignores the second film. Also feels like a pilot for a TV series as well. Which got ignored when they did make a TV series lol. Also its got David Warner in it so definite Thumbs up from me

Very well said, but I will take Zimmer over Williams any day of the week. Zimmer, I'm able to feel an emotional connection through his scoring and that's only happened twice, the second being Trent Reznor and Atticus Finch.

Fright Fest, a good story concept that was atrociously ruined by bad editing & naff direction, plot holes you could jump through & badly acted by the cast especially Dylan Walsh.
Oh & one of the worst anticlimactic endings I've seen in years.
Overall a toxic turd of nonsensical bafflegab.
1/5
