Really loved the first three seasons. First one had some growing pains, but the chemistry and camaraderie of the main cast really went a long way, and John Noble as Walter.... just nirvana. Some of my favorite episode were Johari Window, What Lies Below, The Bishop Revival, 6B and The Last Sam Weiss.
Then 4 comes along, and it just feels like a lot of reheating. You can almost feels the weakened confidence after Fox tired to axe it. 5 was better but never felt especially 'Fringe-y' and more a regular rebelllion arc.

Just saw this thread....I don't usually leave the threads that deal exclusively with my BF ranges!
I was a huge Fringe fan...and was actually considering getting the complete series and having a rewatch! Walter was a treasure! I actually liked the whole cast. I must say, i don't know which storylines belong to which seasons....wasn't season 4 the one that alternated episodes between the main-verse and the alt-verse?
I always loved the opening credits...and how they differed for the different verses, and for the past and future!!

I always loved the opening credits...and how they differed for the different verses, and for the past and future!! The Retro 80s one kicked ass. I'd say I enjoyed all the Seasons pretty equally, even if it did start to feel like it was running on spot as it went on. It did tend to fall into the trap of teasing mysteries and implying nefariousness intent that never paid off in any meaningful way (though no where near LOST-level). And to it's credit, it did the important things right (like Peter's back story, Olivia's emotional walls, and Walter's grappling with his own past and sanity).

Two big things stand out for me - how stonkingly good actors Anna Torv and John Noble are in making Olivia and Walter subtly but noticeably different to Fauxlivia and Waltenate. And then you get Olivia possessed by William Bell and you get Torv channeling not the big parts of an actor's performance, but the subtle things like his cadence..

I wish they had gone for broke with the alternate universes, had FOX had more faith in the series and not try to half ax it.

I love Fringe. When it started I was worried that it was just going to try and re-hash The X-Files, but I ended up getting hooked right away. The cast was wonderful and I am forever a John Noble fan because of it. I also felt that the last season lost something, and I never quite got on board with it, but I still watched every episode up until the end.
