Is it worth getting?

I didn't really enjoy it. The advice I gave to a friend was if you're a big Harry Potter fan then it might be worth getting it later when it's cheaper (or waiting for the definitive edition) but as a casual read it's not worth it.

I was tempted to get it and animate it in lego.

lets put it this way, it's not a fun read.
if it were a novel I think JK would have worked her magic, but this goes out feeling flat.
I think watching it on stage would be a real treat, but I now feel I wish I had not read it and waited my time to see it. (or waited for the inevitable movie!)
disappointing, but not awful, more muggle than magic.

So. Are we thinking the movie will be made in 10 years time with the original movie cast?

I wouldn't be surprised if they film the stage production at some point, but tbh it's not really worth a 10-years-from-now filmed cast reunion. It's not terrible by any means, but it's very... samey. Without getting into too many spoilers, all of the characters and all of the plot relate to the original series. Nothing of any consequence is new or original. Ultimately, what I wanted from the HP Universe was not "more Harry, more Voldemort, more Hogwarts" so perhaps I wasn't the best audience for it. If that sounds like something you want, by all means, check it out.
What I will say if you do pick it up and read it is that Part Two is far superior to Part One. That's where everything starts happening, the characters gel a little more and I'm honestly surprised it wasn't written by a different playwright. So stick with it if you do start it.

I didn't buy it because it was so expensive. Last thing I preordered at full price was the To Kill a Mockingbird prequel and I was disappointed in what that ended up being so didn't want to make the same mistake twice. I feel I can wait for this to go down in price or hopefully get tickets when it inevitably makes it way to Broadway. I am super behind on my reading list anyways.

It's worth reading at least the once if you are a fan, and there's certainly thing to like about it, but no I don't think it's worth buying, although I found it enjoyable enough to read, and some of the new characters are interesting the plot was quite weak i.m.o, it's very derivative and overly reliant on nostalgia...honestly I think I've read more inventive fan fiction (not that I read lots of fan fiction), and that's the scripts main failing-Rowling wasn't the main writer and it shows...
In some ways it was an enjoyable page turner that I'm sure would be exciting to see live on stage, but it's hard to judge how the play works as a play merely by reading the script, I think the plot for better or worse was designed to be seen not read, but for me at least it wasn't a deep or interesting enough story to consider it completely worthwhile anyway, whilst I've enjoyed much of the new material Rowling put out on Pottermore (well, the material I actually got round to reading) and would be intrigued by prequels or background books set in the Potter world (i.e Hogwarts a History, A history of magic etc) I never really wanted an 8th story-that's not me being entitled, I just felt Deathly Hallows was a perfect ending, and I'm not really sure yet whether Cursed Child undermines that or not, sometimes it's better to leave things be... the Cursed Child neither moved the universe on dramatically, nor acted as a memorable epilogue i.m.o, and personally I'm not going to consider it canon.
I can't say I was dissapointed, nor can I say I loved it (honestly I was more or less indifferent overall)...at the very least it was an unusual and fairly enjoyable read, and it certainly makes me appreciate the aspects of the other books in the series I like even more.
That is just my personal point of view, it's hard to say too much without giving the plot away, and although I was never a massive HP fan some of my reaction may be simple bias from growing up with the books (only read CC once and I haven't read/seen the other stories in ages), Rowling has changed and grown as a writer since Deathly Hallows, and I've certainly changed quite a bit as a reader since then
It's fun enough but very flawed, but I'm still rather curious as to how it works on stage...
Don't let my opinion sway you, plenty of people loved it.

So. Are we thinking the movie will be made in 10 years time with the original movie cast? Considering the very mixed fan/critical reception to the (thin) plot and the age/likely absence of key cast members in ten years time I'd say probably (and hopefully) not. Honestly...I'm looking forward to the illustrated edition of Chamber Of Secrets more than I was for Cursed Child...

The magic word is "Ker-Ching". Ker-ching indeed. Many a great author has done it, almost every book Isaac Asimov wrote for the Foundation series after Foundation and Empire was done in no small part because of the paycheck. I've heard good things from other friends who are Potter fans, but the general consensus seems to be to seek out a copy in your local library rather than buy one for yourself.

My library had a poster up for it last week saying they have 25 copies on a waiting list basis, so they've got it. Though, yes, they get less and less new books than they did, or wait 6 months and buy cheaper overstock from publishers. I know it's been labelled a cash-in release but didn't Rowling initially say she didn't want it released and only relented when she got letter and tweets from fans all over the world saying how upset they were not to be able to see it? If so, I think calling it a cash-grab is a tad harsh. She's hardly scrounging for her next dinner as it is Perhaps the play will be filmed at some point too. Amazes me that there have been various taped versions of Les Mis, Cats or Jesus Christ Superstar but none for the likes of Miss Saigon, Blood Brothers or Wicked. Seems like cash cows just waiting to happen. I guess some film companies could have film rights, causing a potential issue.

There are film rights for Wicked at least. I sometimes lurk on a Broadway forum and news from the grapevine is its in the works.

If I can be bothered 'If I can be bothered' that sums it up for me...I was kinda indifferent to it, neither loved/hated it, which is a shame as I was a massive fan of the books growing up and really hoped to have some sort of reaction beyond 'meh'. But like I said I never really wanted an 8th story anyway...
