Well, that's a bit unreasonable, it was never going to start as a touring play. That happens later in a big production's lifespan. The biggies will start and stay in London's west end (or Broadway, for the US) before perhaps touring later usually in smaller-scale versions with differing casts.

J.K Rowlings basically is quoting Jerry Maguire "show me the money". No, Davy explained above JK's position.

lets put it this way, it's not a fun read. if it were a novel I think JK would have worked her magic, but this goes out feeling flat. I think watching it on stage would be a real treat, but I now feel I wish I had not read it and waited my time to see it. (or waited for the inevitable movie!) disappointing, but not awful, more muggle than magic. I don't get why they didn't make it a touring play. That way more of us would be able to see it. Because it doesn't work like that.

Well I loved it, and it made me keen to see the play.

I already answered this on this page. Do you bother reading responses? Big productions don't tour right off the bat, they do so usually after the west end/Broadway run has ended or has run for long enough to revolve casts.
Let's use your example - Wicked opened in 2003 on both coasts in the US but didn't tour the US for 2 years. In the UK it only toured SEVEN years (2013) after the West End debut in 2006. So you use Wicked as an example...but it doesn't work at all. It opened in London's West End too just like Potter.
This is like complaining that this week's big cinema releases aren't on TV first. Because the cinema - and the west end - is where the money and the promotion is.

They could tour it and have it just open in London and even with the costs involved they'd make more money than just having it in the West End!

The people in charge of this know what they're doing. They will tour when they're ready to. Delaying makes them more money in two ways - more people will go to the London version, and those who can't will be that much more desperate to go see it when it finally does tou so the tour takings will be thay much higher. I know you really really want it to be on near you, but just saying that's what they should do doesn't make it true.

If only guys like Andy Lloyd Webber, Cameron Mackintosh and Bill Kenwright knew how to open musicals as well as Dalekbuster they might be multi-millionaires now.
Wait....

I thought it was alright. There were a couple of parts (like the identity of the villain) that just seemed unlikely to me, and Albus could be annoying at times, but I liked Scorpious and I liked the overall story. I can't wait till it comes to Broadway so I can actually see it performed.

I read it last night. Oddly enough, I really enjoyed it. I don't know if it was completly neccessary - Deathly Hallows effectivily closed the series - but it was still an intresting and I loved the new characters, especially Scorpius and the insight of the characters as adults. Watching Harry struggle at being a Dad was painful, but understandable and the scars of war do inflict themselves onto the next generation, to never fully understand, Ron being a typical Dad was hillarious and Hermonine being more comfortable in her skin as an adult.

Whilst I like the idea of another story 'exty years from now', I (so far) haven't found the time to read it yet...
I've just checked on the website to see how much it would cost me to see it next Wednesday... And a ticket to see both halfs would cost £199... Flip.Ping. Hell!
