DOCTOR WHO - MAIN RANGE » 29. THE CHIMES OF MIDNIGHT DOCTOR WHO - SPECIAL RELEASES » THE CHIMES OF MIDNIGHT (LIMITED VINYL EDITION) Released February 2002 (regular version, download only)/September 2016 (Vinyl edition)Synopsis'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house not a creature was stirring... But something must be stirring. Something hidden in the shadows. Something which kills the servants of an old Edwardian mansion in the most brutal and macabre manner possible. Exactly on the chiming of the hour, every hour, as the grandfather clock ticks on towards midnight. Trapped and afraid, the Doctor and Charley are forced to play detective to murders with no motive, where even the victims don't stay dead. Time is running out. And time itself might well be the killer... Written By: Robert Shearman Directed By: Barnaby Edwards CASTPaul McGann (The Doctor); India Fisher (Charley Pollard); Louise Rolfe (Edith); Lennox Greaves (Mr Shaughnessy); Sue Wallace (Mrs. Baddeley); Robert Curbishley (Frederick); Juliet Warner (Mary)

One of the best Big Finish audios out there. Such a marvellous story and well it just wouldnt be Christmas without Mrs Bladdley's Plum Pudding

I'm curious how they're gonna split this release into six parts for the vinyl. Will they add the theme tune before each part or just have the sides end mid-episode?

What can be said about this story that hasn't been said already? It's one of the finest stories in Doctor Who, undoubtedly my favorite Eighth Doctor story, and with Jubilee and Spare Parts, one of the first Big Finish stories I ever heard. It has an atmosphere that's solely unique to this story that's impossible to forget.

When I listen to this story and to Spare Parts, I always listen in the dark because both stories are so atmospheric and creepy. It really is an astounding achievement on every level.

I didn't like it one bit. Too depressing. Too grim. Too disjointed.

Is there a difference between the two releases then, I merely thought that they had re-issue of the original drama, with some additional extras from the original release, not, new material as in the drama itself?

Yeah, I have bought this. After 216 CD releases and 15 titles on cassette, the Doctor Who main range now gets a title released on vinyl. It's a special story for a special release. It looks cool and it will sit nicely with The Light at the End vinyl on my shelf. It's a great story too, so this Christmas I will be retro and play the vinyl instead of the CD!

I want this vinyl so so much, but I just can't bring myself to justify spending $167.14 on a single release, no matter how good the story and how beautiful the packaging.
But ACK I want it!

I wish they could have re-released it on CD with the extras though Personally I would love it if they released The Chimes of Midnight and Spare Parts as a book-style limited edition - I don't usually buy the CDs but I would totally buy that.

I really believe that at some point BF will start revisiting key releases with remastered discs as well as updated & revised extras. I know I'd purchase redone releases of these two titles on CD, and I know I'm not alone in that.
