Is this thread the home for documentaries too? Here goes anyway...
Putin vs The West on BBC iPlayer. 5 hour-long docs going from the 2000s up to the present in Ukraine.
Fascinating (if sobering) viewing and makes crystal clear why Russia has to be stopped, now.

Watched a couple of episodes of TaleSpin.
Probably my favorite of the classic Disney Afternoon shows.

Haven't seen it yet- will see it in about 7 hours time.
Season 21 Episode 2 of "NCIS".. This will 100% be the Saddest episode in the shows history. I actually bought an extra box of tissues as it will be 45 minutes of constant crying from wife.
"The Man From U.N.C.L.E".
"The Great Escape"
plus- creating the famous musical backbeat for that famous Snoop Dog song (plus all the <mic drop> moments on Twitter and Instagram LOL).
It's going to be br00tal..

Recently saw what I gather was David Warner's last television role. Unfortunately, it was on an episode of (shudder) "Teen Titans Go". Warner reprised his role as the baddie in "Freakazoid" in a crossover... actually quite surprising to hear him do a light, non-grumpy voice. www.itv.com/watch/teen-titans-go/2a3033/2a3033a0243

Watched through Pokerface these past few weeks with my parents... it's really good! There were really only two episodes that fell shy of 'great,' I think. I'm not super fond of Charlie's abilities being framed as a superpower, but otherwise? It's fantastic. Highly recommended. Really hope it gets a second season someday.

They have written themselves into a lot of corners from B.B.T to Y.S. - they obviously didn't know they were going to do a prequel

Salem's Lot (2004) Star Trek: Picard Season 1 What did you make of 2004's Salem's Lot, whiskeybrewer? It gets a lot of stick for not being as good as the 1979 version, but I quite liked it.

Its an interesting take on the story and some of the changes really work. Its just a Pure TNT production with weird special effects and cutting,, which really effected my enjoyment. Also Hauer as Barlow.....smh

Very rough couple of days over here. I needed a casual watch and went with Frank Herbert's Dune and Frank Herbert's Children of Dune -- the old miniseries from the early 00s.
The former is... not as good as I remember it. I need to reread the novels, as I may be misremembering, but I feel like... they left out some crucial bits. As I recall, in the book, Paul's conflict with the Harkonnen doesn't really posses any narrative tension -- there's no real doubt in Paul's victory, not just due to the whole prescience/mysticism angle, but the whole framing device of Irulan's Histories. The real conflict, as I remember it, was between Paul and his mother -- with Jessica embracing the chain of events that would inevitably lead to the Jihad, and Paul seeking some way to avoid that future (while still surviving). A narrow needle to thread (am I using that idiom properly? I feel like I'm not....) that he obviously fails at... very conveniently off-screen.
Which brings us into Dune Messiah and Children of Dune, both of which are adapted by the latter miniseries. And it's... a lot better. Owing mostly, I think, to the soundtrack -- which really sings. Paul's last few moments with Chani were... quite powerful. I haven't seen Vilenueve's adaptation yet (hopefully in a couple of months) but I really hope he gets to make a third film, for Messiah. And, ideally, Children and God Emperor, too. Honestly, I don't think Dune really gets good until the second book -- and then falls apart after the fourth, but that may just be because I last (and first) read through it back in... middle school, I think?
One interesting thing to note: the acting. It ranges from "Did they just pick these people up off the street" to "they got WHO?" It's certainly a novel kind of whiplash for mid-budget sci-fi. James McAvoy is in it -- as Leto II, even! Shame he didn't get to reprise the role in a similarly mid-budget God Emperor. And Alice Krige. And Susan Sarandon. And perennial favorite of viewers-with-taste, the indomitable Ian McNeice hams things up beautifully as the vile Baron Harkonnen.
Now there's a man who would've made a fantastic Doctor Who villain. Well, not that his Churchill was bad, per se, just... a bit of a missed opportunity.
