Hey everyone,
What are your hopes for Justice League? Optimism in tow, guys.
For me, Barry being the dorky younger brother of the group. PLEASE, LET THEM GET THIS RIGHT.

I'm not all that big a fan of DC's films and all of my hopes lie on Wonder Woman at the moment rather than Justice League - if Wonder Woman bombs, I'm probably not going to see Justice League... I know, I know - optimism. Okay.
I have to agree the part of the movie I think I'm most interested in is Barry as well. If they keep the tone and character they've hinted at in the trailer and that small snippet of Suicide Squad, I think Barry Allen will be a really fun character - and a fun character is something I think DC needs quite a bit right now. Ben Affleck is a great actor and when he's not murdering people, he's a phenomenal Batman, so I'm hopeful we get some great moments for Batman too. And, of course, Diana/Wonder Woman was sufficiently enjoyable in BvS (even if the rest of the movie wasn't enjoyable...) and I think she'll be great in JL and Wonder Woman too.
Besides that, I'm not getting my hopes all that high for this movie. Snyder has a lot to make up for, in my opinion, after Man of Steel and BvS. And I REALLY don't like Henry Cavill's Superman. At all. So, I'm really split on this movie. I'm not so cruel as to hope for it to fail, but I don't have much that I'm really looking forward to besides some hopeful good performances.

50/50, BvS was disappointing but i did enjoy the extended cut but hopefully with Ben Affleck on board as executive producer he'll help steer this movie in the right direction & Henry Cavill who is a excellent Superman will get better material.

A coherent story with strong motivations for all the characters would be a start. We're 0/3 for those in the DCU so far.
Practically - more Geoff Johns influence is what I want. He's not my favourite writer but he knows Flash and Aquaman as well as any moern writer. The only problem with his run on Flash is most of it has been used by the Grant Gustin version already but still - he's the man who fleshed out Barry's backstory so I hope he gets to work on that character. Anyone who tempers Snyder's excesses I'm all for. If the commercial dissapointment of BvS irked WB (and it did) it would have been better to axe Snyder entirely. It's not fair on him to ask him to alter his creative ideas completely and not fair on audiences not to get a more suitable director to lead the flagship.
Also, don't try and make everyone quippy and funny to combat the complaints about the DCU. Barry can be and Superman should be lightened up for sure. Even Cyborg and Diana can be funny. Batman, though, should be the one who doesn't indulge in humour. Bruce Timm nailed that with JL/JLU - Batman is the ultimate straight man of the act.

Adam West is the best Batman ever, and he's hilarious. Mainly because he takes the most ridiculous concepts and plays them completelt straight. Batman was also funny in the Lego Movie, and it looks like he will be funny in Lego Batman as well. It is important that Batman takes himself seriously, but that doesn't mean that he can't be played for laughs. I hope that they don't wait too long to bring back Superman, and I hope that the movie has a memorable villain.

Well, obviously, but this isn't Batman '66 or Lego - we're talking about the Snyderverse in this thread, not Batman or DC in general. You've got to play by the rules and internal logic of each individual universe. We're not even remotely in the same wheelhouse here and those are completely contrary takes to this Batfleck one. I've loved the Adam West Batman since Channel 4 repeats a quarter century ago so I'm well aware of how the character can be played comedically - and I posted a glowing review of Return Of The Caped Crusaders on this forum - but we've got to go by the Batman of BvS, Suicide Squad and the JL trailer to imagine how this take is going to be going forward. Adam West and Lego don't enter the equation. You can play Star Wars for laughs too a Robot Chicken or Family Guy showed us...doesn't mean anyone expects Episode VIII to be slapstick. Different things. The villain has been announced and cast for a while now. Pretty underwhelming and I don't trust Snyder to nail the character at all but we'll see. Can't be a bigger bust than Doomsday.

Which is why I specifically said he should be like the Bruce Timm version in Justice League - the straight man. That doesn't mean I said he shouldn't be funny at all. Subtle but distinct difference. The straight man in a comic scenario can still be funny and often is the funniest way of playing it, right back to Buster Keaton.

And now that the film has come out, did it sink or exceed your expectations?
Spoilers to a minimum, of course.

Allowing for the fact that I didn't include Wonder Woman as a measure since that film is head and shoulders beyond the rest of the DCEU so far.

I liked it, but didn't love it- and I have been reading Marvel/DC comics for close to 35 years now.. It just astounds me how they can mess so much up, if theres 1 thing "iffy" about Marvel is that they stick to their formula so well, they take their time to make sure they get evertyhing pretty much spot on.. Its like DC powers that be have a format "do the opposite of what makes the Marvel movies work so well" LOL.. Even the actors are slowly bringing up in interviews how much of their scenes were removed completely- mainly Cyborg and Aquaman.. They can only learn from it- make JL 2 even better
