Hi guys:
I don't have - and haven't heard - 'The Armageddon Storm' from the Liberator Chronicles, but i'm aware that the character of Del Grant is reintroduced in that trilogy, and is a regular character in the second full cast series. As i'm thinking of picking the full casts up (i have 'Warship' and one or two from the sirst FC series), i was wondering - is 'The Armageddon Storm' necessary, or is it possible to go into FC series 2 without it? Does the first story of the series re-re-introduce Grant, and/or is there enough set-up to clarify the situation for those who haven't heard the LCs?
Cheers in advance.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

There was a few months between me listening to Armageddon Storm and the second Full-cast series. The focus on each set of stories is different and they are very light on continuity. There is very little to tie the two stories together. I hope you enjoy them as they are great fun.

Thanks. I'll very probably start picking up the rest of S1, and then S2 as soon as the bank account recovers from Xmas!

All you need to know is that Grant is, outside of himself and perhaps Vila, the only person Avon in his own twisted little way trusts. The AS only rates a passing mention in Full Cast 2 (it only plays a part in the later Liberator Chronicles Capital and Punishment).

I mean, i know who Grant is from the TV series of course, i just wondered if - if i miss Armageddon Storm - he just appears out of nowhere as a crew member in S2, so that it would be jarring jumping from, say, 'Voice from the Past' to 'Scimitar' were i to go through B7 in order. that's probably how i should have phrased the question. Not that i dislike the LCs: i heard the first set when it first came out, and really liked it - it's more a question of my budget and preference for full casts.

I found it a bit jarring yes, but there's no essential narrative link.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread but I have the opposite question. Is it ever explained where Grant went? I know he's not in the full cast series 3 but is he given an exit in the Liberator Chronicles, or maybe an off-screen (off-headphones?) exit in the full cast?

I could be wrong and am recently on a relisten but I believe it is still open ended as to his fate....

I think there is a line in Crossfire (in the second box set if memory serves but that could be wrong) that references his departure, something to the effect that he had disagreements with the crew, and that is all we get.
Behind the scenes I think Grant was intended to appear in Crossfire and be killed off but Tom Chadbon declined to appear. I think Nick said in a podcast about the actor not wanting to do it
