Hey everyone,
This is a nostalgia thread for the nineties. Published by Scholastic, Animorphs was a popular sci-fi series about four kids who stumble upon a crashed alien space craft and a dying alien, learn of a terrifying alien invasion. Given the power to 'morph' into animals, the four kids strike back.
Taking a Saturday morning cartoon premise and using it as dark metaphor for the consequences and effects of war, with unforgettable characters, including two incredible female characters. Animorphs was never afraid to break the audience's heart (in the first book, one of the kids stays too long in morph as a red-tail hawk and is trapped. AND THAT'S THE BEGINNING, MY FRIENDS.) or challenge them and never shirked from the big issues.
The series was written by Katherine Applegate and her husband, Michael Grant (Katherine Applegate's had already been a prolific writer at Scholastic, so she was credited as the official author, albiet appreviated because of stupid gender marketing) - their answer for getting these books out month after month and still being brilliant? Cofee. Lot's of it.
So, who was your favourite character, favourite and best book? Etc. For me, Tobias. That poor kid, who I think I reliase now I had a full blown crush on at the age of eight. I GIVE THIS TO YOU, DU. I TELL YOU THESE THINGS.
