I'd love to see the Blyton stories given the BF treatment. Even if we have to put up with Dame Snap in the Faraway Tree and Zoe and Pippa instead of Mary and Jill in the Adventurous Four.

I wonder if Gary Russell would be up for a return to The Famous Five?

Yeah. Dame Slap is now Dame Snap. Apparently, corporal punishment is verboten.
Children do not need their evil villains sanitised.
In the Adventurous Four, Jill and Mary, nice timeless names, have been changed to Pippa and Zoe.

I won a radio quiz by being able to identify Susie and Binkie from the Secret Seven series.

Yeah, Dick in the Faraway Tree is now Rick. Whatever PC nut who ordered the change must be a real rickhead.

And what's with taking out the pre-decimal currency? and taking the pipes and cigars and cigarettes? This was a time period when lung cancer victims were encouraged to smoke as it was thought to help them.

I can understand the updated Animorphs editions, but this is proper period.

Who would BF cast in Blyton adaptions? Caitlin Blackwood as Darrell from Malory Towers? She'd also make a good George Kirrin or Angela Favorleigh.

Well BF's first consideration is:Is there a market for it? I'm of a generation where Blyton was ubiquitous, is she now or is she just a curio? I'm genuinely asking that because I can tell you that 20 years ago she wasn't, and I know that from having been a manager in Waterstone's. The sales weren't there in the figures that fans imagine. But things are cyclical so she could have returned, I keep in touch with some old work mates but it's not a topic that comes up As for the removal of imperial money and so on? It's not important. For example the Gary Russell version of The Famous Five was very much set in the 70s and it had and has a much bigger cultural memory and impact than the period version from later with Jemima Rooper, it just depends on if it is done well. Sherlock didn't have to be set in the 1890s to work either.

I had to look her up as I honestly can't recall ever having come across her growing up here in Canada. The one title I recognized is likely due to Disney.

BF could do a meta tale where Dame Slap deals with the weak, wimpy Dame Snap. And, Jill and Mary deal with Pippa and Zoe.
