Funderell looks a lot like the word funereal. With the opening line of "A god has died" that may be rather telling.

Zygon Hunt didn't really feel like a finale though and aside from that final scene could have slotted in at any place in that season. That is loads better than the disaster that happened at the end of season 4. My ranking of the finales of seasons 1-5 1: Trail of the White Worm and The Oseidon Adventure (the novelty of nostalgia hadn't worn off, that was season 3) 2: The Dalek Contract and The Final Phase (it was a continuation of the Cuthbert storyline and offered some ending to it) 3: Zygon Hunt (reasons above) 4: Pursuit of History and Casualties of Time (was anyone really asking for an explanation about the parrot?) 5: Fate of Krelos and Return to Telos (Worst. Story. Ever)

I enjoyed this two-parter a lot. What was it Nick Briggs said in a podcast about Series 18? That he felt it was 'a bit dry?' I can see that, actually, but (a) I really like that aproach, and (b) anything would be 'a bit dry' after the excesses of the previous Graham Williams produced era (someone is now going to point out that I'm misremembering, and that Nick didn't call it dry at all!). Anyway, The Thief who Stole Time captures that dryness very well and therefore captures the spirit of Series 18 more than any other in this series of audios - and what an enjoyable series these latest 4DAs have been. It seems to have gone on forever - and that's a good thing!
The Doctor reassuring Romana against Sartia's betrayal is a very nice 'quieter moment'. Could her realisation about her failings be a subtle response to some listeners' claims that Lalla's performance has been overtly arch over many of the 4DAs? Either way, she certainly seems a lot more likeable in this - and this comes from someone who loves Romana's spikiness.
As is often the case with Marc Platt, this is a very visual, dream-like world. As mentioned in the extras, there's something of Under Milk Wood to it - a kind of poetry to the society and the idea of the great Sleek. I love all that, but more than that I love that this story isn't overtly concerned with being a spectacular end-of-series finale; rather, it focusses on being a thoughtful and enjoyable tale - also, it's good to find a villain that is more concerned with Romana than The Doctor.

When you're listening to an awesome vinyl/ record/ cd and you hit that one song, that one song that has no reason for being on the album. That song that screams FILLER. Why is it there, or worse why are they so many of them?
Do you think Big Finish has a tin ear when it comes to their audio plays?
