I never actually got round to watching it. Was it any good? There were 2 good* episodes, the rest were just pure, unadulterated cringe. *relative to the others

I enjoyed what I saw of Class, so I'm certainly sad to hear this. Even if I'm not really surprised given how long it's hung in wait, and the fact Patrick Ness already said even if Class was renewed he wouldn't be a part of it.

Such a shame. I enjoyed it a lot. Hope Big Finish continue the series.

Shame. I don't think it was nearly as bad as some people made it out to be. It had teething problems, but plenty of potential, and I thought the finale was pretty good.
I know it doesn't have a huge fanbase, but I'd love it if BF worked their magic, because I feel like they could do something really good with it. Even if it's a one-off to wrap up the cliffhangers...

They took their time confirming that.
Making it a DW spin off was actually the worse about it.

I never watched it, but from the reviews I've read reception was decidedly mixed, taking into account the lousy viewing figures, lack of promotion, general indifference when it was announced and Patrick Ness confirming months ago he wouldn't be involved in a Series 2 if it happened, this isn't surprising news in the slightest, although it's sad a part of the Whoniverse died such a quick death, I'm not at all upset.
I wonder if this increases or decreases the chance of a new Who spinoff in the Chibnall years? IIRC Class was originally pitched as a stand alone series, the BBC later bringing in Moffat to help rework it into a Who spinoff.

Hope Big Finish continue the series. There's currently an active thread on Gallifreybase discussing a twitter rumour that BF are considering doing so. Take with the appropriately sized pich of salt...very doubtful of this myself, it if it couldn't find an audience on TV, would the series fare any better on audio (especially given it's teenage aimed target audience)? Perhaps they could take some of the plot elements, unusused ideas and general setting/tone of the series and do a loose reboot? As Capaldi appears in Episode 1 I'm assuming

As Capaldi appears in Episode 1 I'm assuming I imagine it would have a bigger audience than Tales of New Earth. The problem with Class is that without a character from the main show leading the spinoff, it didn't have a draw to make people care about tuning in. Plus without the Peter Capaldi cameo and the Weeping Angels cliffhanger at the end there was nothing to indicate it was a Doctor Who spinoff. The Weeping Angels needed to be in episode one, and Peter Capaldi midway through the series. I'd have also set it during either Series 8, and written Clara and Danny as the main leads in the series helping the students take on the aliens.

Actually it raises the question, since the TV series has been cancelled would Class still fall under the current Who era/license?, i.e if Big Finish or someone else wanted to continue/reboot it, would they have to wait for/negotiate the rights to the 12th Doctor era as a whole, or would it now count as a 'legacy' license, as I understand it Capaldi's cameo apperance wasn't central to the plot, less a 12th Dr spinoff, more a spinoff the 12th Doctor appeared in once...

I never watched it, but from the reviews I've read reception was decidedly mixed, taking into account the lousy viewing figures, lack of promotion, general indifference Lack of a proper channel to platform it was a huge factor too. Such a shame that the BBC Three channel was shut down, even though I was outside their catchment age, I did find that it offered a wonderful alternative and sometimes edgier presentation of programmes. It was the springboard for many new writers and acting talent (aged 15 to 35) wanting to break into mainstream television from comedy to documentary but now that platform to showcase on a wider scope has been taken away. At one time there could be a dozen or more new writing talent (as well as established writers) comedies coming out within one year that felt really fresh, such as Little Britain, How Not To Live Your Life, Nighty Night, The Smoking Room, Ideal, The Mighty Boosh, Mongrels, Pramface, Cuckoo, Gavin & Stacey, etc. All of which I feel would never had a chance or look-in if they relied on BBC2 to give them a try-out. Same goes for their drama and documentaries output, as shows like Being Human, The Fades, and Doctor Who Confidential, too niche perhaps for the two main BBC channels and wouldn't have got their chance without BBC Three. What was sad was actually hearing and reading online from Three's demographic age group actually advocating the removal of the channel from broadcast because they weren't interested in TV aimed at them or any sort of gateway for them to actually get into the business. If it was hard before trying to get one's foot in the door, it'll certainly be a lot harder now due to the extremely reduced content relegated to being online. A classic case of they don't know they're born or what's good for them, came to mind.

I think Class did have potential, and did have good moments. It wasn't the greatest series ever made but I don't think it's the car-crash it's often made out to be. It's meh premise and online-first release didn't do it any favours. I may rewatch (last I checked the episodes were still available on iPlayer).

Wouldn't it be its own license, much like Torchwood was?

A classic case of they don't know they're born or what's good for them, came to mind. My problem with BBC3 as a channel was that a lot of the content was tacky reality rubbish. If they had focused more on dramas and comedies it would have been great, but shows like Don't Tell The Bride and Snog Marry Avoid felt like a waste of the license fee. BBC3 Online could have been a good idea, had they been using it more like a streaming service akin to Netflix or Amazon Prime. At the moment it feels too much like an extension of BBC iPlayer rather than what should have effectively been an online channel. I'm beginning to think now that they should have kept BBC3 on TV, scrapped all the reality rubbish and kept it purely YA drama and comedy.

I'm very sad that no one seems to have gone for a "Class Dismissed" punchline yet.

I'm very sad that no one seems to have gone for a "Class Dismissed" punchline yet. They expelled the lot of them lol Also considering the end of the series: {Spoiler} There is the possibility that Doctor Who wrapped up that cliffhanger itself. Dont forget The Doctor says that the Monks stopped all sorts of invasions, including the Weeping Angels
