I'm busy going through all the Jon Pertwee stories for the first time. I'm loving his Doctor so far!
Just got to Terror Of The Autons and have noticed something odd about my UK DVD. In Episode 1 during the actual episode, the top and bottom of the image seems to be slightly cropped i.e black bars at the top and bottom of the image. This doesn't affect the opening and closing credits where the image fills the 4:3 frame as normal but just seems to affect all the footage between both sets of credits if that makes sense. All the other episodes show the image as normal as well with the image filling the 4:3 frame so it's only Episode 1 that's affected. I'm wondering if this is maybe some sort of DVD error because it just seemed odd and it was very noticeable to me? I know there was been a few DVDs in the range that have had faulty batches with unintentional errors like this so I'm thinking maybe this is one of them.
Has anyone here heard of this or do any of you have the same thing happening on your DVD copy? If not, could any of you do me a massive favour and check your DVD copy for me to see if it's the same as mine? I'm probably overthinking this completely but I'm just worried that I might have a faulty disc and that my image is slightly cropped.
I did a quick search and came across a post on Gallifrey Base with someone describing the same thing as me but no one on there confirmed whether that was an error and present of any of their DVDs or not. I would therefore be very grateful if anyone here would be able to clarify whether this is present on their copy and/or whether this is a fault with the disc or not? If any of you do want to check this for me could I please ask that you do so using a desktop PC or laptop and not on a DVD player with a TV. This is because most TVs have a feature called overscan enabled by default. If this setting is enabled it effectively crops all sides of the image slightly. meaning that if this setting is enabled on your TV you won't see what I'm talking about anyway even if it is present on your disc. Viewing the disc on a PC or laptop using it's own screen won't cause this problem that's potentially present while viewing it on a TV.
I've added some images (which I found on the Gallifrey Base thread) below in a spoiler tag to show you exactly what I mean. Hopefully Buster Friendly the user who shared them originally on Gallifrey Base doesn't mind me sharing them here to better illustrate what I'm describing.
Thank you for any help anyone can give.
Edit: I can't get the images to embed but you can see them by clicking the links to each image.
