This is something I got for Christmas several years ago and never listened to. I think I might have to give it a go. Thanks for the reminder.

For anyone wanting an extra Who link, Will Parry is played by Daniel Anthony (Clyde Langer in the Sarah Jane Adventures). Will is one of the main characters, although he doesn't appear in the first story of the trilogy.
Bill Paterson (Bracewell in Victory of the Daleks) also has a significant role (the Master of Jordan College)

This thread has reminded me to “listen again” to these. I first listened to this one Christmas a few years ago, so I think of them as Christmassy which is somewhat ironic (that’s probably the wrong word) considering the controversy with the books.
It is a shame that the BBC television series doesn’t seem to be progressing.

Listening to the audio version of the new prequel book of dust How is it? Cheers Tony Ok so far, I haven't read the book of this one. Lyra's only a baby, another kid is the main character. I had forgotten how strange the world was, so familiar yet different.

Ok so far, I haven't read the book of this one. Lyra's only a baby, another kid is the main character. I had forgotten how strange the world was, so familiar yet different. I'm about halfway through it so far. I have no idea where it's going, but it certainly has me enthralled. Reader does a good job with it, but I fear I've been spoiled by the full-cast readings of the original trilogy and side-books.

The audio dramas are ok......but I thought the multi cast audiobook versions were better.
But they are a trilogy of books that is up there with lotr, narnia and co.
New book of dust vol 1, was ok ....great first act, saggy second, rushed third and poor end.

I'm doing this the old-fashioned way - reading the book. Two chapters in, and I'm once more reminded of Pillman's clean and pleasant writing style and his world-building skills, which are two of the things that kept me reading the His Dark Materials books

Yeah, I have the Book of Dust, pre-ordered it, but I haven't started reading it yet.
Don't know if I will do the audiobook versions. Sometimes I just like to read the book.
