Just watched an advert for the new season of X-Files "coming soon" on Channel 5 here in the UK.
It seems all that retcon we had in the previous revival series where Mulder rejected the idea that there were really aliens etc has been retcon back to original form.
I guess that means that people tended to agree with me view, that the original retcon was bad.
So yeah!
Well lets hope so, although the new series appears as though it might be very arc heavy and bent towards alien conspiracy. but my favourite X-Files were nearly always the monster of the week type.

From what I've read, only two of the ten new episodes are mythology arc episodes. The other eight are all monster of the week episodes, so MOTW fans should be have a lot to enjoy this season.
As for the retconning of the mythology via the revelations in "My Struggle", my impression of the intention there was that the show was just bringing to the forefront something that had always been part of the mythology, that the Syndicate had used captured alien technology to carry out their plans, sometimes masquerading as aliens and other times encouraging people to develop wild theories to distract from the truth. The writers always made a point to show us that there had been humans involved in many of the abduction cases depicted on the show such as Duane Berry's abductions and, most importantly, Scully's. I think the other element with these revelations was also another ongoing theme of the show, that Mulder's search for the truth is fraught with misdirection and that his desire to believe is both his greatest strength and his greatest weakness because he is fallible and can be deceived. I felt that Mulder experienced a period of frustration with his journey in season ten that was similar to his period of disillusionment in season four when he began to believe he had been duped by misinformation and that there might not be aliens behind his sister's abduction. I felt that the show wanted to put a spotlight on the "conspiracy of men" angle of the mythology since it tied in so well with many of the government conspiracy theories that have gained popularity since the show had originally gone off the air. I felt less that the story had been retconned and more that it was just being viewed through a different lens.
All that said, I'm intensely excited for the new season.

The monster of the week stories in the revival series were better than the mytharc stories, anyway, so I won't care if it's more monster of the week and less mytharc.

Er...the cliffhanger ending of season 10 kind of put paid to the rejection already, didn't it?
