India Fisher narrating the cookbook works so wonderfully well for BF fans in particular, non-BF fans might just think of her as doing the voiceover because she's also the Masterchef narrator - not realising she's a Sixie companion herself!

Well Whovitt, I'm hoping for a Behind The Sofa with Colin and Eric Saward cuddling up under a blanket and having a giggle over old times. I might be waiting a while on that one! It still tickles me more than it should that the naming system for Region A means the US will get this as Colin Baker: The Complete Season Two. People looking at shelves when these releases are done will wonder how Doctor Who has had over a dozen First Seasons! To misquote Louis Armstrong, "If you have to ask how the Doctor keeps starting again, you'll never know!"
Twelve regenerations in, I think the secret is out to anyone who'll even glance through the sci-fi section!

Here maybe but we're talking about the US sets - you think the casual browsers in Walmart, Best Buy or Target know that? Or to them is Doctor Who that show that started with David Tennant a few years ago?

The goodies! Extended edits - of all fourteen episodes (!) Terror of the Vervoids - four-part standalone edition with updated Fx (Trial-less?) - this will surely be the BFI screening
Immersive 5.1 surround sound & isolated scores - on all 14 broadcast episodes Behind the Sofa - new episodes with Colin Baker, Nicola Bryant, Bonnie Langford, Mark Strickson, Frazer Hines and Matthew Waterhouse! The Writers’ Room - Eric Saward, Philip Martin, Christopher H Bidmead & Waly K Daly discuss the ‘Lost’ Season 23. YES! The Doctor Who Cookbook Revisited - brave cast members tackle their original recipes from the 1980s official cookbook The Doctor’s Table - join Colin Baker and friends for dinner. Since Colin did Come Dine With Me a few years ago this makes sense! In Conversation - Matthew Sweet chats to companion Bonnie Langford Plus: unseen studio footage, rare archive treats, convention footage, Blu-ray trailer, HD photo galleries, scripts, costume designs & more in the PDF Archive. The six-disc box set also includes hours of extensive special features previously released on DVD. Interesting I would've done a Trial less EDIT for Mindwarp.

Vervoids is easily the most standalone story that doesn't require any of the Trial to work, and doesn't rely on an epilogue from later on - I'd say it's by far the most logical choice. Mindwarp is exciting but for a different reason - the isolated score being included. The master tapes of that were reported lost years ago - so however Mark Ayres and the team have done so, to get it here is very, very cool. One of the best scores of the 80s.

To many there he is THE Doctor (and I wouldn't totally argue with that even though Jon is my Doctor )

That's an excellent point re Mindwarp! Mark Ayres is an absolute wizard with audio. I'm impressed they've managed to do this.

And this is the part where I would've gone "Aha! Can be seen on this channel," but unfortunately, it doesn't exist anymore. I can say, though, can be accomplished with a little bit of wrangling in three comfortable parts. I'd have loved to have access to the isolated score then. One of my favourites for its off-beat, faded paradise aesthetic. Up there with Jonathan Gibbs's score for Vengeance on Varos. Composers, we hardly knew ye. Fingers crossed for a revamped Thoros Beta shoreline, that would look spectacular. On the subject of Vervoids, from memory, it was the only story of the season with the Trial scenes written around the completed screenplay. Add in a bit of VO about the Doctor explaning Hallet's death to Mel while they're walking through the cargo bay and it's pretty much self-contained. Barring whoever murdered the murderer. Although with the opportunity to make it standalone, this time, we might just get an answer... (My money's on the stewardess as a possible representative for the consortium interested in the Vervoids as slave labour).

Hello again.
Having watched the Trial in its entirety in January I am slightly more positive about season 23 than I was in 1986.
I loved the fact that the Doctor and Peri were actually enjoying being together. Glitz was great, it was good to see Sil back, the Vervoids one was ok in parts and the creation of the Valeyard, now that was an interesting concept.
However, I still think it was a daft idea. The trial scenes were dull despite the best efforts of the cast.
The Doctor Who Cookbook Revisited is a great idea. I got my copy from Longleat and promptly went home and made Chumblies from Heather Hartnell's recipe. The Cookbook was a great little collection, the biogs and recipe notes were fun and the black and white illustrations made the book something to treasure.
Season 23, not a favourite of mine but had its share of good moments including that epic speech by Colin Baker in episode 13.
"In all my travelling throughout the universe, I have battled against evil, against power-mad conspirators. I should have stayed here. The oldest civilisation: decadent, degenerate, and rotten to the core.
Power-mad conspirators, Daleks, Sontarans, Cybermen - they're still in the nursery compared to us. Ten million years of absolute power. That's what it takes to be really corrupt."

In the past, Bob Holmes doing what feels like a quintessential Terrance Dicks story. Everything proceeding by the book. In the present, Ridley Scott's Flash Gordon (with a smattering of Temple of Doom). Things are starting to go off the rails. By the time of Vervoids, where we're looking into his potential future, we should've been out of that courtroom with a fugitive Doctor. Whatever pretence of procedure, goes completely out the window. No TARDIS, no companion, nothing to fall back on save knowledge that something is up with the High Council. Worse, no one to trust. The guards sent to retrieve him may see that an "accident" befalls him before he can present any further evidence in court. He's fighting back hard. As the Doctor does. They have to drag him back in by his coattails, charged with evading justice and -- with the altered evidence -- genocide.

Hello again.
I just found the trial scenes broke up the action too much. I also felt the 'clever' idea of having the Doctor on trial as a fictional mirror to events behind the scenes was rather foolhardy.
In 1986, I couldn't believe that after the hiatus the production team had come up with this. I sat there week after week wondering if it was going to get any better.
Sorry Season 23 fans but for me it certainly was a trial. A second viewing this year did improve my overall impression of Season 23.
However, I still feel an epic battle over the season with this mysterious enemy who changed his identity in each story and was then revealed to be the Valeyard would have been more dynamic and involving than the Trial.

I can't wait to see how long it takes for us US fans to get it. /s
Seriously though, the US schedule for the Classic releases is absolutely abhorrent.

I haven’t had the chance to watch the trailer yet, but the list of extras is brilliant; really definitive. I loved The Writers Room from Season 18, so cant wait for its continuation with the “lost” Season 23. Matthew Sweet is brilliant and intimate with his interviewing, so more of that series is very welcome. Extended edits of all episodes is great; the TARDIS stuff from The Mysterious Planet sprung to mind instantly. Isolated scores don’t personally appeal, but I have friends who love them, so I’m chuffed for them.
The feature I am most looking forward to is the one that isn’t actually new material; the Trial-less Terror of the Vervoids. I think it’s a great little story that’s actually dampened a bit by the Trial, so I can’t wait to get stuck into that.

Exciting times. I've always had a fondness for the Trial season.
I have recollections from throughout the Peter Davison era. Some of those are just flashes that stuck in my mind as far back as Black Orchid when I was 4 (possibly dating back a few weeks prior to that if my memory of the Mara is from Kinda rather than Snakedance). My memories become stronger and longer through the second and third of Davison's season, soon becoming of watching whole stories like the Five Doctors and Frontios.
I don't recall watching any of Sixie's first full season when it first aired and none of it seemed familiar when I saw it in the 90s on VHS or UK Gold so I guess I was doing or watching something else that year. When the Trial season started I was 9. It's the first season I can recall seeing in its entirety each week, me sat in our kitchen watching on a little portable black and white tv.
That wonderful opening effects shot looked lovely in shades of gray. It still looked great when I eventually saw it in colour when it was released on VHS in a TARDIS tin in the 90s. Just watched it on youtube and it still looks great. Sounds great too, lovely bit of music over that scene.
Very much looking forward to this.

I continue to be surprised/impressed that they're doing these sets. I never thought they would! I can't wait to see how long it takes for us US fans to get it. /s Seriously though, the US schedule for the Classic releases is absolutely abhorrent. Ahem, North America, not US I also find it really irritating that they retitle the releases over here, my brain does not like it!
