Very strange. Differing sales would mean there are some fans who don't buy everything. I mean ... seriously? How can anyone be a fan and not buy everything? I couldn't sleep at night knowing my collection was in some way incomplete. I will not be buying S22 when it comes round for release on blu-ray, complete collection or not! (Really!)
I had to think seriously about S23 but went ahead with the pre-order for the extras.

My friend Janice bought S19 but none of the others as she's much, much more a Davison fan than any other Doc and she won't be buying the others bar S20 and S21 so it happens.
I guess with the model for these sets (high end, limited edition, sell more at pre-order and full price, avoid people waiting for price drops) then it's not quite as much how many they sell as how fast they sell them. Especially since they do all seem to be selling out at a clip. If they're printing pretty much the same limited amount for each set and really emphasizing the "Complete your collection..." aspect then I'd imagine there's much more of a focus on selling this to completists than there was in the VHS and DVD eras. Pretty much in line with most bluray boutique labels these days, really. Making "The Collection" the brand over the individual season or Doctor.

Peter McTighe's booklets getting such great feedback must have gone down well as this is the biggest yet, improved page count and more pics. A real great read. I love the small things that they're doing to keep consistency across the range like using a BBC Publicity 6x4 still for the back of the booklet cover. It's the little detaisl like that that really show the love that goes into these. Someone was saying earlier on FB that on the Region A sets they don't get the disc voiceover intro from Tom/Peter/Katy - is that true? It's a tiny thing but it's always nice having The Doctor or Jo welcome you to the disc you're watching!

I'm similar in that I am only seriously interested in 4th & 5th Doctor. However, 1st Doctor stuff would be good if it gets a nice picture & sound restoration like the recent Quatermass and the Pit Blu-ray which looks great for show from 1958!

However, 1st Doctor stuff would be good if it gets a nice picture & sound restoration like the recent Quatermass and the Pit Blu-ray which looks great for show from 1958! Quatermass had a LOT of film material unlike Who - in that 5 years between the last Quatermass serial in'58 (well, till the John Mills one decades later) and the debut of Doctor Who in '63 videotape had been adopted as the almost exclusive way of recording in studio. So while Quatermass And The Pit is older, it's got better elements to use as one of the last serials to be shot with so much film, which now allows it to be shown in true HD - like Spearhead From Space. Especially since the "safety copy" for the videotape survived giving even better elements to use for the remaster last year. Sadly that's just impossible for the Hartnell's or any of the early eras. They'll look better than ever, the sound will be vastly improved and they'll have lots of new features but will not rival Q&TP in terms of pure picture quality. The elements were just never recorded in the first place to make it look quite that good. That Quatermass & The Pit blu is 100% recommended though for anyone who hasn't got it - it's the best Quatermass story, got the best Quatermass actor in Andre Morell* (with apologies to Andrew Keir) and I think is the most clear in terms of lineage to Doctor Who in Brit-Sci-Fi. A lot of the talent who worked on the bluray also work on the Who blurays and there's a commentary with Toby Hadoke moderating that is absolutely stunning - piecing together all sorts of interviews Toby has done with the cast and crew, including some who have passed away. A real treasure trove. 14 quid on Zoom, an absolute bargain. www.zoom.co.uk/product/quatermass_and_the_pit_blu_ray*May be slightly biased as Morell is one of my favourite actors and the sole reason The Massacre is at top 3 in my wishlist for hopes for missing episodes being found! His son Jason also had a support role in The Next Doctor.

But - but - but S22 has Daleks! (My least favourite Dalek story by some distance but still, Daleks.) And it also has Timelash which sells it to me right now.
S24 on the other hand is destined to be a Henry Moore-esque gap in my Collection, ie a space with as much significance as all the parts which are present!

S22 might have had Daleks in, just about, but yes it does also contain Timelash... which for me is one of the worst examples of televised Doctor Who, ever. (Not as bad as The Twin Dilemma, but fairly close.)
I will also be giving the S24 collection blu-ray a miss. It is all Doctor Who, but it ain't all good!

Fair enough, I certainly won't argue about S24!
S22 is a mixed bag imo. At one end I love the OTT-ness of Timelash, The Two Doctors is a must for me and Varos is a very good story. And I think a bit of panto with the Rani and the Master is good fun too. Ironically, it's the two with the 'big name' monsters that I could happily miss out.

Received mine late this afternoon, a day earlier than expected. Has anyone else noticed the nice little illustration on the base of the slip-card? The Tardis going through the Anti-Matter Vortex? The artwork and presentation really elevate these beyond the 'compact bundle them together in a box' approach now commonplace, that I initially feared they may be.
I agree regards S24 - but like S23, S22 just has a special place im terms of feel good nostalgia for myself as they were the period when as a 13-15 year old, the programme became so much more than that. It matters not that they werent the best in the shows run, as they still evoke so many clear memories of the time.
S24 was when I started to feel embarassment at what the show had become and led after S25 to a period of 4 years where everything got packed away as I 'moved on' to other interests, as they say.
I have the 1992 repeats to be grateful for reawakening my interests again. So yeah, I know where my gaps will be in this range, much as I like to be a completist, but no point in getting something I have still not rewatched on DVD yet.

We can't even get the sets in a timely manner now, let alone in the same quality. We haven't even had a confirmation that Trial of a Time Lord is showing up in the US. The releases came out so quickly in the US last year. Why in Rassilon's name did they decide to pull this delayed release garbage on us.

I'm sure Tom outsells all the other classic Doctors, whatever the range is - TV, audios, books. He's unique in all of Space and Time! S18 is a newer release of course (mid March) so S19 had a three months' head start. When S18 goes OOP we should be able to tell but I bet it won't take 6 months - unless they produced more copies because it was a Tom season.
Well I guess that answers the question about relative popularity and sales.
Assuming they produced the same number of each, S19 sold out in a little over 6 months, S18 is on the very edge of selling out after just over 3.
UPDATE: S18 LE is back in stock on Zoom (though not on Amazon.) So if you still need Tom's wonderful last season in this splendid presentation, now is your chance! Not to be missed imo.

Has anyone tried playing season 10 on a region one player?
If it works, I'm just going to import a signed one off of Katy Manning's site.

(One day, maybe at the end of the Collection, they will reissue S12 LE to bring the total quantity up to that of the later seasons. It would be only fair imo.)

I think so too, but I guess that could be snapped up by scalpers even faster if it was LE again since they've seen it go for massive money already. Based on nothing but my own guesses on the bluray industry, taking DW out of it, I'd guess it's more likely we see non-limited versions of the releases in standard amaray boxes, like the Region A ones, losing the deluxe packaging and the booklets. It's how almost all the UK boutique labels work and this LE model follows their typical styles - LE marquee product sold to collectors in pre-order, sell out, create scarcity, release standard edition that costs little to produce compared to the marquee item then start all over again with the next one. Honestly, I thought there would be a "standard" release for S12 already but maybe they don't want too much product out at once especially given the animations line too.
