The feature length JNT documentary on Disc 7, directed by Chris Chapman is quite something.
It's got mostly everything we know already but to see just how empty his life was without steady BBC work was heartbreaking. It's very easy to forget because he was around forever but when the show came off air in 1989, JNT was still only 42 years old. Yet even after his successes over 20 years with the BBC he was completely on the scrap heap, unable to get jobs on local radio or producing regional theater.
There's a really poignant moment where Janet Fielding, John's really good friend, remembers he asked her when she was an agent (she was McGann's agent for the TV Movie) to represent him and help him find work. Janet declined because she knew she couldn't...and didn't want to let a friend down. That's really quite harrowing.

Just finishing up on the extended Ghostlight. But it will be extra sad watching The Curse Of Fenric, with Nicholas Parsons passing away today. RIP Nicholas

The Writers Room continues to be a highlight of the range. Lovely pubs, food and, most importantly, company. They’re fascinating insights and it’s lovely to see them all reminiscing. It’s a shame that there realistically aren’t going to be a great deal more.
The JNT documentary is brilliant. Lots of things I didn’t know and some wonderful anecdotes from the contributors. The stories about the post-Doctor Who period of his life are tragic, especially some contributions from Janet Fielding, showing a rare side to her. It’s a well made piece, lots of lovely shots from various locations.

Cheers Davy, very pleased this is happening for all the fans who missed out before.
I must admit I've started collecting these beauties in pairs, one for use and one for shrink-wrapped backup/archiving. (I know, I know... but this is Classic Who ) And for S12 I thought myself very lucky to have one copy so this chance will be welcome.
(My excuse is these will presumably remain the definitive sets for Classic Who so this is the very last time! And with the security of a backup I can then pass my DVDs on - minus the few DVDs like 'Genesis' with a unique 'extra'.)

I've been meaning to ask about that. Does anyone know why "The Dalek Tapes" was excluded from the Blu-ray release? I really rather enjoy that one and was disappointed when I couldn't find it on the Season 12 set.

Yes, like other "missing" pieces from relevant sets it's apparently being moved to a set where it either makes more sense for inclusion or where extras are a bit scant. I could see Dalek Tapes being on S25 with Remembrance or even way back in S1 with The Daleks. It was made "in-house" so there's no rights issue unlike, say, Tombwatch which is on the original DVD for Tomb Of The Cybermen but the rightsholder wouldn't allow it to be used in the Special Edition so keep your original versions of Tomb, folks!

Oh, okay. So there's a good chance that anything that was on a DVD that doesn't make it to its respective Blu-ray will probably still see the light of day just somewhere else. That's alright then. The only things we probably won't be seeing then are Tombwatch and the Jim'll Fix It thing then?

Most of the extras are BBCWW funded but I wouldn't take chances, like Tombwatch some things are licenced, like a lot of the convention footage, so anyone who really doesn't want to miss out would be best advised to keep hold of the relevant DVDs till all the extras on it are ticked off the future bluray sets. As you say Saville is another example - anyone who wants to have Fix With Sontarans...keep your Two Doctors DVD.

Yes, pleased to say I was a later buyer for 'The Two Doctors' and have the new pressing without it.
Which reminds me of one that was re-pressed for a purely technical reason : the confusing scene swap-around at the Ep 3 cliff-hanger on the early standalone release pressings of 'The Invisible Enemy'. I bet we don't get that included on the blu-ray. Maybe as an extra? I remembered the story well because I had the novel if not the VHS and I still sat there going what? what? what just happened?! Then I Googled and realised why I'd bought it cheap...

Was Doctor Who the albatross around his neck, or was it other reasons?

Apparently it's already unavailable on Amazon, glad I preordered it straight away. That's fast. Having said that, I remember other times when a title has appeared on Amazon, suddenly gone away and then reappeared again. It might just be timing?, none of the other usual outlets I look at have it listed at all, not even as 'unavailable'.
And having said that, I'm also glad I got my pre-order in as soon as I read Davy's post!
