So glad this available for download now, I've had my eye on it for ages. Third Doctor and Cybermen is such a good fit. I'm downloading now.

Third Doctor, Cybermen, and Liz Shaw - what's not to love about this story?

This was the series one CC I was most interested in hearing and after listening to it last night I can't really say I was disappointed. Nice bit of mystery to start with, a dash of the body/identity horror that exists in the best Cybermen stories once Liz finally finds her friend, and an effective twist that turns the usual Cyberman story concept on its head and makes the whole thing rather tragic.

A great story again and an early favourite from the early C.C's

A story I had to hear before the 3DAs Vol 4 come out this week and it mostly lived up to my expectations - and the ending was a very surprising twist.
It's effective (and poignant now) hearing Caroline John as Liz looking back over her life, both at UNIT and her earlier days as a Cambridge student with the friend she would lose so horribly. As a Liz Shaw / Third Doctor story with some unusual Cybermen to deal with, I thought it was excellent. The first half is all creeping menace and mystery in domestic and familiar settings which are very realistic, before they show up for part two and what I thought was a very gruesome and effective Cyber-conversion scene. Their methods may be new, but the end is the same - a human life taken and a Cyberman created.
I'd have liked more for UNIT to do - although they are all in the story (including Mike Yates, interestingly) they don't really do much - Sgt. Benton is brave fighting some Cybermats and that's about it until the ending.
That end twist was a shock to me - although we knew roughly what would happen: Liz tells us at the start that this is the story of the day she decided to leave the Doctor - and why. It's a twist on 'The Silurians', where Liz sides with the Doctor against the Brigadier's military solution.
Here, having seen her friend killed/converted before her eyes, Liz sides with the Brig., putting the case that his destruction of the new-model Cybermen can be called self-defence. The Doctor doesn't agree and leaves Liz alone - presumably at that point she decides he is too alien to ever really understand?? I too thought it strange that the Doctor would object to destroying the nest of dormant Cybermen when he has done so many times, before and since.
It's a sad (and dramatically effective) ending to a memorable partnership of equals, unusually equal for that time (on or off-screen.)

I haven't heard this story in a long while but I do remember liking it. Probably because the Third Doctor is my Doctor. Although I was never a big fan of the CC format. I thought The Blue Tooth was a lot better than the Dalek CC that preceded it though, so I will give this a four in the poll.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I only listened to this a couple days ago:: I really didn't enjoy the first two stories in the range very much as the framing devices seemed quite forced and unnatural but this was fantastic. Scary and chilling and very well put together all around.

Caroline John was so good! Sad she didn’t get more of these before her passing. This one was good and surprisingly understated for being a big 3 vs Cybermen story.
