The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat I absolutely loved this episode. The best one of the season so far.

Rm9sbG93ZXJz:Bravo! This episode was rather innovative and differently executed than you would normally encounter from any television program. Mulder and Scully's date night goes awfully wrong when they have dinner at a fully automated sushi restaurant. Barely any verbal communication occurs between Mulder and Scully throughout the entire story. Lots of good subtle humour applied. This probably is my favourite episode of Season 11 thus far. "They" learn from us is when a technological nightmare could happen in our futures. I finally got around to watching this one and thought it was pretty brilliant. I watched Kitten too, which I thought was also a pretty good episode.

"They" learn from us is when a technological nightmare could happen in our futures. I loved the touch of Scully's security password being Queequeg, the same name as her dog. Not sure she'd have a smart house though, after her experience with government conspiracies and cover ups. A good touch was the drones that looked like an insect swarm, and I bet that many want to do what Mulder did to the bigger drone. Plus Mulder being on hold was hilarious, but at least it wasn't as tedious as some hold music I've heard (radio and repeating guitar chords are the worst, best I've heard is Ode to Joy, which I would happily listen to). The cold open was absolutely chilling, and the opening scene in the sushi restaurant contrasted nicely with the closing scene the diner, which had soul, comfort and actual people.

For some stupid reason Channel 5 have decided to move The X Files back an hour to 11pm. Very annoying.

Watched “Familiar” yesterday, thought it was a pretty good episode.
It’s kind of a shame they started off season 11 with that awful “My Struggle” episode. Turned a lot of people off, some of them decided the whole season would probably not be worth watching. But they’ve had some pretty worthwhile episodes after that.

Has anyone watched "Nothing Lasts Forever"?
It was an okay story, not a particularly original idea, but it was way too gory for me. A lot of stuff I had to look away, I just couldn't watch. Even thinking about it right now is creeping me out.

Yup. Mr. Chuckleteeth actually made me think of that killer doll movie from years ago.

Yup. Mr. Chuckleteeth actually made me think of that killer doll movie from years ago. And the only way that cold open could have homaged IT any more than it did would have needed a sewer and red balloon.

I watched the last episode of season 11 last weekend (a week ago) - My Struggle whatever number we're up to. I'm not really that thrilled with the direction they took the mytharc, to be honest.

After My Struggle III really, really killed my enthusiasm for this season, I've given it a second chance with the bluray now out and hey - things got better fast with Ep 2, "This". Throwing Langly in was fan-service, sure, but it never felt as with the first ep that the fan service was in place of story. The virtual afterlife (Death In Heaven anyone? It even made the same "Steve Jobs is here" joke) was a fun idea and a good way to get a Gunman back without a cheap resurrection.

Aah yes, the " My Struggle" saga... With low expectations, I ended up enjoying the My Struggle IV finale. Just before viewing that last episode, it seemed as though it was going to be a recipe for disaster with having the 2 major plot threads (the impending pandemic from Seasons 10+11 and the William thing) needing to be dealt with in only 45 minutes! What ended up happening (damage control thankfully) was that 1 of those plots was ignored. And, the other plot thread (I won't identify which one) did rather play out in a satisfying fashion.

The fact it could stand as a conclusion, with clorsure rather than opening yet another can of plot worms, certainly helped. If this is the last episode, than we've got an end instead of a great whopping cliffhanger in need of resolution.

The person of interest within My Struggle IV is still somewhere out there and that will forever be cliffhanger enough. For what will probably be the *final* episode of the X-Files original series, I did appreciate the aspects of closure that was given.

As far as cliffhangers go it's more of a sequel hook than anything demanding immediate resolution. Which is a nice change considering how X-Files liked to do shock reveals or characters in imminent danger as season cliffhangers.

Ep 3 - Plus One A decent episode made a bit special by Karin Konoval playing both twins who have the power to make Black Lodge-like Tulpas and kill using a telepathic game of hangman. It's a bit creepy, bit fun...very solid monster of the week.
Ep 4 - The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat Well now. This was the show going back to it's more comic style that we haven't really seen since Season 7 or so. It was hilarious from the off - 8-year old Mulder still having the 50 year old Duchovny's head, the Mandela versus Mengele debate, the revised title credits adding Reggie Somebody in. Loved the footage of classic eps like Tooms with Reggie CGed in. Then that lovely subtle moment where Skinner recognises Reggie...so maybe he's not crazy. It's not got the wit of the funniest X-Files like Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose, Hollywood A.D. or Jose Chung's From Outer Space but it's very funny. Though I hear a lot about the Mandela effect...does anyone actually know anyone who thought he died in the 80s?

Finished the show on my RDO today. Overall...I liked it. As always the myth-arc eps by Carter are where it falls down but I was happy it felt very 2018. It recognised that the Government in "our" world can't be trusted for much more obvious reasons that alien coverups, there were allusions to Russian conspiracies and a secret civil war between the Government and the FBI. Nice they acknowledged these real world concerns.
Ep 5 - Ghouli This is what the mytharc eps should be, and were in a lot of the early years. Mostly standalone but then with a tie into the arc. There's an X-File in sleep paralysis but I'm not sure this ep did enough with that, having to do a monster and have William there too. Some nice stuff with the visions and snowglobes.
Ep 6 - Kitten Wow...Haley Joel Osment is all grown up. I love having a Skinner ep. It's about time as he's so often the MVP and so seldom got to do more than be backup for Mulder and Scully. There's a lot of anti-government stuff here which is a major theme of the season too. We get Skinner's motivations at last.
Ep 7 - Rm9sbG93ZXJz Brilliant. It was like Jacques Tati directing Season 1's Ghost In The Machine. Nothing too original about the sentiment that we're all far too tech-reliant but this is just so well done. Making it mostly silent, like Tati, is a masterstroke as it really shows that not only are we reliant, but that conversation is a dying art. The whole opening sushi scene through the Uber home was just a joy.
Ep 8 - Familiar This played like a Ryan Murphy wet-dream. Mr Chuckleteeth will surely haunt many memories. I'm not sure the actual magic was enough of a reveal but it all ramped up well and Mulder makes yet another point that every American town is this tense in Trump's America.
Ep 9 - Nothing Lasts Forever It's a pause before the finale and for what it was...it was fine. I liked the grand guignol of the whole affair. An aging, and ageless, has-been star serenading a brainwashed hari-kari victim with There's Got To Be A Mornin After was a real belly laugh. Absurdly fun. Not quite sure there's enough to hold the whole episode though.
Ep 10 - My Struggle IV Well....it's the best of the My Struggle saga but that's not saying much. Having William's powers compared to an X-Man really rammed home that there's nothing about him that we aren't seeing in a bunch of other shows. He could join The Gifted or Runaways tomorrow. That Carter wrote this ending knowing Anderson was done is baffling. He should have had William's shape shifting gift only be hinted at and have him as Scully take the plunge so we can either kill Scully or bring her back with the shape-shift. Would leave options...now the only way a Season 12 happens is that Anderson breaks her word or that we have a soft-reboot going against the pregnancy bombshell. Is Skinner dead? Is Spender? Will we ever find out? Does Carter even know? There's NO way Carter thought this was the end when writing. He's just re-written the ending of other seasons and movies he's done already and ignored the overarcing conspiracies entirely. But hey - as we saw with My Struggle III he can just retcon anything as a vision....
