i rewatched end of the world from series 1 and billie piper was perfect i dont think of rose as a great companion but when i go back and watch her episode they really caught lightning in a bottle with her and rose. watching her i just cant imagine the show getting as big as become without her and rose.

I thought she was great full stop. It was through her that we got to know the Docto again, Billie's chemistry with Chris and then David made her likeable, even when he scripts called for her to behave in a somewhat petulant (though very human) way. I remember when she was cast before Doctor Who actually came back, and people were asking,"Can she act?" Afterwards, people were saying, " Can she act!!" And yes, in The End of the World (a story that will never otherwise be a favourite of mine), her realisation of where she was and the implications of time-travel, were beautifully played.

She was an absolutely vital component in Doctor Who's relaunch, no doubt about it.

I think Billie Piper was a major reason behind the relaunch's success. Perfect casting.
