Not as catchy a theme as Jenny had but really close. Has a real 60s TV spy show kind of feel to it.

Has anyone listened to this? I dont think I've ever known something have such a quiet release week on this forum. I'm very keen to know people's opinions (outside of the usual "10/10" review sites) to see if it's worth buying

I'm very keen to know people's opinions (outside of the usual "10/10" review sites) to see if it's worth buying I would be listening to it, but as I listen to only 1 CD per day and Class also came out this week, I'm still working my way through that. I can post my opinions on this set starting Monday if you'd like though

I might feel like listening to it later tonight. I've just been busy with classwork.

The boxset is fluff. Inoffensive, well-written enough, but ultimately just fluff.
The first story is arguably the best, with Dorney enjoying the noir thief thriller aspect of things. The second story didn’t do it for me, but then I’ve never liked Sylvia. The overall story felt under-developed though. The third story wastes the Sontaran and shoehorns Sam Bishop in - if only he could actually find the time to appear in his parent series more regularly, I like Warren brown and I like the character.
Listening to the fourth story as I speak, but the fact is, this boxset is as underwhelming as I expected (and this coming from someone who loves anything Big Finish do). I won’t be rushing to buy a series 2 of this, unless the final story is something spectacular.

Fluff is pretty much how I would describe it, yes. I enjoyed it enough, but there's nothing stand-out about it, if I'm honest. That being said, I'd probably buy a second series, just because it's a fun way to spend four hours or so.
I have to agree that Skin Deep was the weakest story of the set, IMO.

Going by the relative lack of reviews on this forum 4 days after release I fear this is not selling well

The final story was not offensive but also not good. The story jumps from set piece to set piece with no real semblance of structure. The Slitheen are under-used but I love Slitheen so enjoyed the bits they had to do stuff. I wouldn’t buy a series 2. I feel like this is a wasted spin-off, especially compared to Jenny earlier this year

What put me off and other people too i think was the lack of originality. It seemed like a carbon cooy of the tenth doctor chronicles using both Sylvia and everybodys favorite farting monsters. It just seemed a bit lazy. Plus that first cover really gave an of set tone and even from the trailers,i just feel this was too light for lady christina and i would have prefered a more spy-y vibe which i didnt get. Might still get it in a bundle with jenny as ive heard good things but im not sure

I can only speak for myself, but the introduction of the War Master to the UNIT series made me buy that range for the first time and if Lady Christina was the guest star in a UNIT boxset I would have snapped that up too. As it is I haven’t ordered Lady Christina or UNIT Revisitations. As for Jenny the Doctor’s Daughter I would wholeheartedly recommend that release and am hoping to hear news regarding another series soon.

I enjoyed them, though I was in the mood for lightweight fun. It's very informed by the Tenth Doctor era, and people make some good comments on Sam Bishop.

It Takes a ThiefWell, that was quite fun It's probably the most family friendly thing I've heard from Big Finish. Lighter in tone even than Jenny, but still enjoyable even though it felt very 'safe'. Looking forward to seeing what the rest of the set is like!

Skin Deep
An interesting one, this. I enjoyed it, but it was less about heisting and more to do with adding some substance to Christina's backstory (though that's still pretty thin on the ground here). The plot itself wasn't too bad, but it felt like there could have been more of a sense of urgency by having at least one of the guest characters actually being interesting enough to care about. The best part about this was Sylvia. There's a lot going on with her that isn't explicitly stated, but Jacqueline King does an amazing job of expressing lots of her inner feelings that wouldn't normally be seen on the surface. And the final scene is quite touching too.
Halfway through, I'm getting the impression that this series is about the character of Christina, as in her interactions with others, more than the stories themselves, and I'm not saying that's a bad thing. But there could be a little more... well, more, to the stories.
Oh, and this one is not quite so family friendly, but it's still not all that unpleasant either (which it wouldn't be, of course, what with Big Finish wanting to draw in and keep as many new listeners as possible with all these New Series products).

Portrait of a LadyAh, here we go! This is more what I was expecting! A great plot, fast pace, consistent action, AND the character interactions that this series loves so much This is easily my favourite of the set so far, and I would probably go as far as to say that it's worth the price of admission alone. It makes up for what the previous story was lacking and expands upon what the first story did so well. Here's hoping the finale holds up to this standard!
