Inspired by omega's threads for the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Doctors - and since Jon Pertwee's Third Doctor is 'my' Doctor...
Which of his five seasons is your favourite of the Third Doctor? There are high points in each I think, and some lows. And if you can choose, which is your favourite story from each one of the five seasons?
Season 7 Spearhead from Space The Silurians The Ambassadors of Death Inferno
Season 8 Terror of the Autons The Mind of Evil The Claws of Axos Colony in Space The Dæmons
Season 9 Day of the Daleks The Curse of Peladon The Sea Devils The Mutants The Time Monster
Season 10 The Three Doctors Carnival of Monsters Frontier in Space Planet of the Daleks The Green Death
Season 11 The Time Warrior Invasion of the Dinosaurs Death to the Daleks The Monster of Peladon Planet of the Spiders

Oh Tricky
They've all got stories I like in them but not a whole seasons worth.
I suppose Season 8 but that's because Delgardo and Courtney own it. Season 10 cause there's something about Planet of the Daleks and Green Death that just make them feel good.
EDIT
Stand outs from each Season 7
Ambassoders of Death (gets the miss-judged attempt at Bond/The Avengers vibe they were going for the this season the most right)
8
Terror of the Autons (Excellent introductions to new series regulars)
9
The Sea Devils (The Sword fight nuff said)
10
2 I've already covered
11
Time Warrior (More excellent introductions) Regards

Favourite season: 8 The full UNIT 'family' is here - and the Master appears in five excellent stories. Mostly colourful, fast action and fun, balanced by the serious 'Mind of Evil' and the gritty 'Colony in Space'.
Five season-topping favourites: Inferno - the parallel universe and two breath-taking cliffhangers (episodes 4 & 6.) And The Eyepatch. The Dæmons - unusual with its rural setting and aura of "magic", but it looks wonderful and and is the definitive good versus evil story for the Doctor and the Master. The Curse of Peladon - I just love it! 'Hamlet in space', full of aliens, aristocrats, Aggedor and Aikido. And it looks terrific, one of the very best of all studio-bound stories with great sets & lighting. Carnival of Monsters - brilliant, complex story, quite satirical and a lot of fun too. And with Very Big Teeth! Invasion of the Dinosaurs - yes, the T-Rex IS rubber and yes some of the walls quiver, but it's a cracking UNIT story and a great plot about conspiracies and 'the enemy within'.
with very close seconds The Mind of Evil, The Sea Devils and The Time Warrior in their respective seasons.

Regards mark687 Agree, there's variety in every season, some highlights and one (or even two) stories that aren't as good - usually because of an overlong six-parter imo. I felt much the same when choosing my top Fifth Doctor season, but there the highs and lows were even more obvious, for me at least. Yes, season 8 and for much the same reasons! Three was an 'ensemble cast' Doctor not always a lone hero and that's one of the things that makes his era special for me.

For a season overall, I picked the last one with Sarah, but my two favorite individual stories are the 3 Doctors and Carnival of Monsters. Also Inferno is one of my favorites.

Probably season 8 since it heralds the arrival of The Master and before the character was used to death.

Ten! While Inferno is my favourite Third Doctor story, The Three Doctors is my favourite televised multi-Doc - and I do really like Carnival and The Green Death. The other two stories are a little hazier in my mind, but I certainly remember liking them.

I don't know if I could ever choose between Seasons 10 and 11... Half a vote for each then!

Not an easy choice, since every season is a pile of good things and bad things, but I narrowly opted for S.11 on the strength of: - Sarah Jane (my favorite companion)
- The Time Warrior (introduction of the Sontarans, and one of my favorite funny lines in DW)
- Planet of the Spiders (not only a great story, but the first time they ended a multi-story arc in DW)

Can't believe Season 7 isnt running away with it much less joint 2nd last, it's a stunningly consistently good year of Who - every other Pertwee has at least one clunker - but Season 7 is close to perfect. And I say that as someone who ranks Pertwee very low on my list of Doctors.

Great support and chemistry between Pertwee and Courtney. Intelligent scripts. Interesting themes. Some great stunts. Great characters. What is there not to like?

This is one of the toughest polls... Jon Pertwee is my Doctor too. I started watching Doctor Who during Season 8, so I am very fond of that. I didn't get to catch up on previous Doctor Who stories visually until VHS tapes arrived, as repeats of Doctor Who episodes on TV were rare, although the Target novelisations had kept me up to date with some of them. Season 9 got my vote as my favourite for this poll, as that was one of the most enjoyable periods of my life. So there are plenty of good things in all of Jon Pertwee's seasons for me, in fact there's hardly any stories that I really dislike, although in hindsight some are not as good as I thought they was when I was 7 or 8. (Day of the Daleks I'm looking at you!)
My favourite stories from each season are:
7) The Silurians 8) The Daemons 9) The Sea Devils 10) Planet of the Daleks 11) The Time Warrior

A hard call .. but I went for 8. Pertwee is not my favourite Doctor but there is something about the Letts-era that is just pure comforting escapism, more so than any other era of Doctor Who (in my opinion).

I find it impossible to choose a favourite from these. Jon Pertwee was the Doctor when I was a young 'un, and that kind of fondness makes it very difficult to rank his series. So I'll go for the series that contains the largest number of my favourite stories ... which would be series 9.
7 is apocalyptic and gritty, 8 is the 'time of the Master', 10 is when the Doctor is free once again to become a gentleman of the universe, and 11 changes things with a lessening (or absence) of the 'old guard' (the Master, Jo, Unit) and Sarah Jane giving the Doctor a new kind of companion to get him into trouble. And the stories! Spearhead from Space, Terror of the Autons, The Green Death, The Time Warrior and Planet of the Spiders - these thrillers made a huge impression on my childhood, instilling a love of sci-fi and (above all) horror that I would never (want to) shake off!
But Series 9 had three such stories, back-to-back - Day of the Daleks. Not the best Dalek story, but a belter nonetheless and underrated. It took the improved effects DVD release a few years ago to remind me how good it is. The Curse of Peladon - one of Doctor Who's most convincing and fascinating alien worlds, bursting with new (and old) aliens and monsters: Doctor Who turned up to 11. And the Sea Devils - one of the greatest Who stories ever told. A true comic strip come to life. And those incredible creatures rising from the depths is a true classic image. And the Master too!

They are all brilliant! I love Season 7 but it's so different from all the others - and virtually all of other 'Who' - that I felt a bit unfair even putting it in the same poll. It has three stories that might be 'Quatermass' and then the amazing 'Ambassadors' that (as Mark says above) is Avengers/Bond. (I know not everyone likes 'Ambassadors' but I think it's excellent, a feature film on a 'Doctor Who' budget and it has some of the best location filming in classic 'Doctor Who'.) But it's very difficult to compare Season 7 with any other. Season 7 to 8 was a 'soft reboot' that wasn't all that soft!

I too voted Series 7 - a strong season and some of the stuff in Inferno was very good, watching it on daily weeknight serial fashion on PBS in the mid 80s. Still, there's a ton of great stuff to be found in the Pertwee era, Carnival of Monsters was another one that I rather liked. I'm also rather partial to Series 11, but..
Way back then when it aired in my area, I guess Invasion of the Naff Dinosaurs was left out, so I only ever saw that a couple of years ago now, without that I'm not sure if I would feel like I could properly judge Series 11. (I was happy to discover that it's actually a pretty decent story, as long as you close your eyes whenever you see a dino, either that or make it a drinking game and take a shot every time one shows up)
