I wouldnât mind a fan edit of Last Jedi potentially cutting back some of the middle where it drags...also cut the stupid Leia survives in deep space thing. IF The Doctor can have almost super powers in Doctor Who and The Master leap tall buildings in a single leap then have a granddaughter when he is a grandfather and a grandmother well i think we can say that The Last Jedi space Leila walk has the most credibility

I liked the last jedi but i really dont care enough to argue itâs case (i could but whats the point people don't listen amd would rather spend their time complaining about a new cartoon aimed at kids...) still its such a divisive film, it litterally cant be discussed which is stupid but it is what it is. Now as for the predator, that does look epic!

I was thinking of discussing the merits of the Last Jedi but hey i poured a whisky instead and turned on an audio and now am in a blissful place with the Candyman

Caught some of Empire Strikes Back on Telly over the Bank Holiday weekend. I know it's held up as the best, but I put in my VHS off air of A New Hope from 1983 back in November just out of curiosity and ended up watching it right through, scratchy pan and scan and no 'enhancements'. Han shoots first and far better for it.
Simple fast moving story without baggage. Han Solo scene stealing as an extension of Harrison Ford's character in American Graffiti, lots of humour and fast editing - I understand that many appreciate the later opening out of the worlds conceived in the original, but to me the simple adventure and good versus evil fairy tale of the original is still the one I turn to for an exhilarating escape to simpler times.
Fans argue about the directions taken since in the franchise, but like all the best Doctor Who, I like them stand-alone and unencumbered by mythology of continuity. I just want an uplifting two hours where the inner 6 year old me imagines being one of the Heroes. Who gets to 'save' Leia? Han or Luke? That was the level of playground re-enactment back in the day.

While I was alive for it, the entire Star Wars hype totally passed me by. That's because my parents simply would not take me and brother to the cinema back then. It was only later, in the mid 80s, when the local State University's Student Center cinema put on a Star Wars marathon, showing all three movies back to back, that I first saw them. So... at least my first viewing was on the big screen in a crowded theatre, (but I wondered if I was the only person there that had not seen them before!), but at that point, they were still the original prints, this long before Lucas got into revisionist history.

Not the only. My daughter-in-lawâs mother wouldnât let her see the movies because she thought they were too scary for a kid. She didnât see them till she was dating my son. They had a Star Wars watching party on DVD - all of the six existing movies in two days - when he found out sheâd never seen them. They are both too young to have seen the first movies in the theater when they first came out, but I made sure my kids had seen them.

The revisions started in 1981. That's when the subtitle "Episode IV: A New Hope" was added to the Star Wars opening crawl. So what you saw was only mostly original.

Thereâs a horror movie called Alien? Thatâs really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Rereading this thread is making me realise that I am a bad fan: I don't remember the last time I got really annoyed by the direction something I liked was taking. I just gradually lost interest in them over a course of episodes/ movies/ books. The desire to rewrite something in my own image never really took hold because I figured that there was a reason for why the creators were doing what they were doing and if I didn't like it - regardless of the investment I had up to that point - then I didn't have to follow them any more. Of course, I was following a lot of things so losing one or more of them wasn't really that much of a loss. Sometimes I'd like to be that sort of person, other times I wouldn't.
