I’m surprised they’re not releasing all these covers at once if I’m honest. Not a complaint on my part though, merely an observation. Across the Broad Announcement strategies lately seem Odd Regards mark687

You know, these three releases are precisely what I've been 'needing' from the "main range" Torchwood releases, a 'break' from stories featuring 'the usual faces' we regularly get in this range, and in a story that it is told across more than one release (I know we had the 'Double' two-parter at the start of the year, but I do like a decently told story-arc, and it's refreshing to actually have an on-going story again instead of 'just' being given another episode with, say, Andy, Into or Queen Victoria again...).

To be fair, I don't think these stories are actually a trilogy in any sense other than they all have the Ood and the Impossible Planet characters. I think it's more akin to the 'romance trilogy' earlier this year than it is to Double. As for releasing the covers on consecutive days - I have a feeling they've taken on board some of the comments made about Torchwood often being announced verrry late in the day.

I wonder if someone made a digital transcript of the audio script?
its a shame that the bbc are refusing to allow BF to release absent friends why not simply just make a audio novel version from the script and have it available for purchase or make the script available to read

Good find and a fascinating read, definitely more "Family Friendly" then the usual TW output. Regards mark687

Someone on twitter shared one of the pages from the Absent Friends script (probably a screen grab from the Ebay posting) kinda interesting dialogue on how callous The Tenth Doctor is towards Captain Jack i guess from 10's perspective he is probably around his Time Lord Victorious phase or Post Waters of Mars)

Another page did confirm the TLV connection, as the Doctor mentioned the Dark Times.

Me again. I have another insane conspiracy theory that Absent Friends is getting released this month. Join me on this magical journey... 1) Big chunks of the script got leaked last month via that eBay listing. 2) This month's Big Finish Book Club is Serenity, a Jack and Ianto story, and the Big Finish Newsletter acknowledges John Barrowman in new copy for the first time in forever. 3) In a tweet, Big Finish listed their releases for the month and it included a [redacted] tag. There's something unannounced coming this month, but they don't seem too fussed about teasing it or promoting it.** But these on its own don't mean much. Here's the real signs... 4) Shortly after the script leak, John Barrowman posted a reel on Instagram that was a picture of him as Captain Jack from a Big Finish cover. The caption read... Which suggests he'd been on the phone with someone at Big Finish. The only reason I can think that they'd be talking to him at this point might be to let him know that Absent Friends was coming out, but in the process also mention that he wasn't going to be rehired as Captain Jack in new stories. 5) Even though Russell T Davies unfollowed JB on Instagram a while back, RTD has been interacting with Barrowman on Instagram. If the BBC was enforcing a total freeze-out of Barrowman, either RTD doesn't care anymore or the BBC has lifted it. 6) Today, Barrowman posted a video where he teased "something big" being announced on March 20th. Knowing that JB has an interesting relationship with the truth when it comes to what's going on behind the scenes (remember when he claimed Steven Moffat was blocking Jack's return?) I have a theory that Big Finish is going to quietly release Absent Friends, but that JB will be all over social media saying "CAPTAIN JACK IS BACK!!!" and trying to style it out as a triumphant return. Anyhoo, take those facts for what they're worth and account for the heavy dose of confirmation bias I've got going on. *Ooo, also - the tweet suggests the redacted release will be out between Broken Memories (14th March) and The Quin Dilemma (22nd March) - so the dates fit for the 20th March.

The position has always been that the BBC don't want Barrowman associated with new stuff. BF have been consistently promoting sales with old stories featuring Barrowman with them long before now.
We're closing in on three years, I think it's pretty clear we're never hearing Absent Friends.

I do wonder if his post was sly confirmation of the speculation that Captain Jack is being recast (as suggested in articles such as this one: metro.co.uk/2024/03/23/doctor-fans-predict-return-iconic-character-trailer-drops-20517116/) and that he just happened to pick a Captain Jack picture. It would make a lot of sense to cast a younger actor to keep the whole immortal and doesn't age (or ages very slowly) thing going. I do empathize with desire to want Absent Friends to be released. If I recall correctly Big Finish has released audios with controversial actors such as James Dreyfus after the controversy, but then just never hire them again. Of course, in those cases I presume the BBC didn't get involved.
