Just noticed that the usual January-March 2019 5th audios will not have Nyssa or Adric in them . Nice to hear more of Turlough though. In fact, Sarah Sutton seems to have completely disappeared off the general Who radar this year. Anyone know why? Is it a coincidence? Is she bored of it all?

We still don't know what the Fifth Doctor's 20th anniversary boxset is - I'd put good money on Nyssa being in that (possibly The Legacy of Time, too).
It is not as if we have been short-changed for Nyssa material, anyway - she's been in nearly every Fifth Doctor main range story for the last decade!

Since 2008 Sarah has been in at least one Main Range trilogy with Peter. It got to a point where I felt Nyssa fatigue because the storylines she got that were genuinely compelling were getting fewer (the 2014 was an opportunity utterly wasted). There's still the chance Sarah may be performing a Short Trip for next year, so to say 2019 will be Nyss-less is far to early to call at this point.

I'm very much hoping that the boxset will feature Nyssa and Adric (and that Legacy of Time might feature a Tennant or two). It is not as if we have been short-changed for Nyssa material, anyway - she's been in nearly every Fifth Doctor main range story for the last decade! Oh, that's nothing - did you know that this guy Peter Davison has been in virtually every full cast Fifth Doctor story that Big Finish has ever made?

All drs need a healthy variety of companions to stop them getting stale and nyssa (like ace and leela) has been seriously overused to tbe detriment of other potentially available dr/companion line ups

I mean Sarah Sutton was in the Behind the Sofa features for the Season 12 Blu-Ray which was a treat and will be on the Season 19 Blu-Ray. Seriously watch those features if only for Louise Jameson, Janet Fielding and Sarah Sutton’s banter

It was absolutely time for a Nyssa break in the main range - the Kamelion trilogy is only the *second* Fifth Doctor trilogy without her - with the first one being the Key 2 Time trilogy which was the very first trilogy of releases for any Doctor.
But Sarah has a Short Trip in November and I'd be surprised if we don't hear her at all next year. She might even be in another Fifth Doctor main range story, as we only know three of them.

I think there is a case for companion-less stories, to more plausibly fit into continuity gaps. Sylvester McCoy often delivers admirably without Televised companions on-board, such as in Robophobia.
As a Timelord, we can buy into the idea that he may spend extended periods away whilst his mortal travellers have a well earned rest. On TV, it always seemed that they had a very finite experience travelling with the Doctor before deciding to jump ship. They certainly do not age on telly so there is no suggestion that they spent years with him, as would need to be the case to fit in all the scrapes they have got up to on Audio, between televised adventures.
So, why not just have the Fifth Doctor meeting short acquaintance allies in the period between, say, the Kings Demons and The Five Doctors? It removes the obstacle of 'all present and correct' in terms of his televised crew.

I think there's mention of Trakenites ageing slowly, so Nyssa has been with the Doctor for ages between Time Flight and Arch of Infinity

Personally I'd be quite happy to see Nyssa & Leela rested for some time. Leela especially as she seems to have got her beak into just about everything which becomes tiresome.

I admit, I'm a little disappointed we aren't seeing any Season 19 stories so far, mostly because I've really been enjoying those releases in the Main Range, but Tegan, Turlough and Kamelion is an excellent substitute, so I'm happy to wait. Besides, we may still get a box set with the Season 19 team anyways.

Leela hasn't had a Short Trip since 2015. And although she was the Companion for 4DA this year, she wasn't in 4DA for the previous two years, and won't be for the coming two years.
