There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I leave it as an exercise for the reader as to whether it has or has not made my day.

I'd like to know this as well actually Its closer to the book then any of the movie adaptations so its more about the motivation of Moreau and his "Patience", though Roland Pickup gives a suitably off-putting take. I enjoyed all of these Wells adaptions. The only one I found a little heavy going was The Shape of Things to Come, and even this was saved by two very strong central performances.

I think the problem is BF tried to be as faithful to the books as possible, but the books are very old and sci-fi storytelling and audience expectations have moved so much that in this instance faithfulness is not a virtue

I enjoyed 'The Island Of Dr Moreau' too. It's very faithful to the book and while it has 'adventure' elements, most of the horror comes from the brooding, introspective account of the thoughts of Edward Prendick (John Heffernan is excellent), trapped in a living nightmare. The adventure elements are very well done and I was also very pleased by the extent that Prendick's voice (and Wells') from his traveller's tale is used to describe his thoughts and experiences. This does mean the pace is slower than a pure adventure story, but that's only the surface of the novel and I thought the deeper, darker side came through very well indeed. And the production (sound design etc.) is first-rate even by BF's usual very high standards.
It's a great series all round imo, 'First Men in the Moon' is the real oddity in the range and well, that's an odd book!

Yes. What works on the page doesn't always work when slavishly recreated in another medium. The story must be adapted to suit the strengths of the new medium.

I also enjoyed the Island of Dr Moreau a lot it’s one that hadn’t been done often or I haven’t heard another version of it on audio.I know i didnt enjoy as much The War of Worlds adaptation that version was weaker than the Sherwood Sound version.

Problem with their adaptation of The War of the World’s is it just ends. That’s it. Very jarring even if the resolution to the novel was deliberately meant to be anti climatic.
