It would be awesome to see some really bold new stories, even some experimental ones, with the new Tardis team.
Slash the Tardis team to just Graham & Ryan, 3 is too many. I actually quite like Yaz, and I like her better than Ryan... But there certainly is no discussion about Graham being great.

I have a very strong suspicion that they're playing it safe in some aspects just to reassure people this current season is still Who. Build a rapport with the audience and a solid foundation that they can one-up themselves on later. The traits of Jodie's Doctor also feel a lot less prominent than her two predecessors. Eleven's wackiness and Twelve's anger were pushed very, very hard at the audience, but with her there's this genuine modesty that's kind of unique to the character. The thing I've noticed most prominently about her is that she's a gadget girl, she loves studying how machines work. Likes to experiment, particularly when talking with people ("Laters! Ohh... Not doing that again..."). An observer in a way that the Doctor hasn't been for a very long time. I think going into a second season that'd be the thing I'd want pushed to the front: the fact that it takes a bit of coaxing to bring her out of her shell. There's a lot going on up there, I'd just like a bit more of it out here. Which I guess counts as a success, after a fashion? I'm really interested to find out more about this incarnation. Yes that's all very true, as I said I like her, I just wish they'd down play the use of the sonic. I'm not sure if it's Smith and Capadli I didn't like or indeed Moffat's vision of the show. I like to lose myself for an hour relax and enjoy the fun without having to think too hard, Moffat created very convoluted, drawn out, confusing plots and arcs that stretched on for weeks most of the time, I simply couldn't be bothered with it. I prefer the stand alone episodes like this season. I think the story arcs have had their last farewell for a couple years with Capaldi's final season. The thread with Missy was a good one, but yeah, I agree that it was time to drop it. After ten years, the show doesn't really need it anymore. In terms of the sonic screwdriver, I'm liking the informal running gag they have at the moment of bad things happening to it. There's something really endearing about the Doctor having to improvise in spite of it, pulling together what she needs from bits and pieces around a farm. That's another thing I'd like to see them carry across into future stories. They have the equipment... But circumstances make it so it doesn't work.

The basics are all there, it just needs a bit of shaking up.
And I think one thing we really desperately need- some good strong impressive memorable villains. Let's be honest- the villains so far have been a bit of a letdown. I think a good story rises and falls with the quality of it's villain...
Yeah, I think the best candidate going forward for a rematch would be the Thijarians from The Demons of Punjab. Except that instead of it just being those watching on vigil for the dead, the assassins turn up as well. One faction feeding the other without actually realising it. There could be a very interesting episode in that.

Well, it is not as if there is much you could do about it, anyways. Sigh. I keep my fingers crossed for you guys in any case.
I think in future generations, this will be taken as an example of "Why you should always think before making a life changing decision". The whole thing was not thought through from the beginning (aka when the referendum was announced).
Scotland did not vote to leave. That actually annoys me.A bunch of nutters agreed to leave and we get dragged along with it.Respect the vote my arse.get rid off the UNION it only works for the favoured few.We didn’t and we want the same deal as NI 🤪as does Wales and let England leave on its own As I said. It is an example of "they did not think that one through".

But I reckon we could expect the Tooth Fairies to come back, since they appeared (or were mentioned) in two episodes already. Maybe they team up with the time- travelling racist (which I reckon will come back sooner or later). Both options would be a bit disappointing for me, since I found all of them a bit underwhelming in their first appearance.

The UK voted to leave the EU and Scotland is part of the UK, through their own choice. To be fair there are as many in England that want shot of the Scots as there are Scots who want out. And as for nutters voting to leave, does that include over a third of the Scots who voted to leave too?

David Warner chat lasted a few posts before becoming "I think the show is getting cancelled soon" (the Beeb must hate the massively increased ratings!) followed by "Brexit -what is it good for?" - possibly the two most done to death topics this forum has ever had. Sprinkle in some "Here's where Moffat went wrong!" and it's really a greatest hits of DU commentary..

Moderator speaking: Guys & Gals - keep the politics to the off topic area please, there's a lot of needlessly heated responses here and in our reports.

Well shit. That escalated quickly.... I hate it when I go out for the evening and return to find I missed out on some fun here; Members throwing their toys out of the pram and leaving, posts deleted, and of course Jason and his infamous red font. Just like the good ol' days!
[Makes note to not to go out on Saturday evenings again!]
Now, getting back on topic to stop Jason getting the red writing out again; I think David Warner would have been a great TV Doctor as he's great at most things he does. Thankfully, we have him on audio for Big Finish so long may it continue.

Oh sh*t. There I was away doing stuff with my parents, and when I come back here two days later, I can only look at the aftermath of some big tsunami. Including missing some of my favorite "sparring" partners. I feel bad, because if I had been there, I might have been able to defuse the situation, which I completely missed, somewhat. What a mess. I apologize if some of it has been my fault.

To be honest I don't think you could have diffused the situation if you had been about (I tried steering the conversation back to the subject at the time and failed miserably). It spiralled out of control pretty quickly. Hopefully once they have had a chance to cool off they'll reappear on the forum.

It saddens me that these political crevasses that cut through our society also manage to cause discord and division here. It is as if there is no common ground anymore, everything is either black or white... it does not matter if it is here in Austria, or in Germany, the US or the UK. Everywhere the same story.
But you are right, maybe my voice of reason might have been too quiet. I also hope things calm down again. It would be sad, these guys gave me some good laughs in the past few weeks, when I needed it. Stupid to lose this over a messy, horrible political situation where the little people cannot really do anything about anyway, except argue. But most likely that is the goal of whoever is pulling the strings- even the Romans used the principle of "Divide and Conquer". A united enemy is much harder to beat.

"We are far more united and have far more in common with each other than things that divide us."
Words spoken by a woman far wiser than I will ever be. A single sentence worth remembering.

So it was this. Its like watching the wreckage wash ashore Just trailing behind you myself. Pity that Politics rears its head even here, from what I can surmise from the remnants of the discussion. Anyhow - I thought Peter Moffatt was vetoed in bringing McGann back for the Day of the Doctor, and the whole mini episode regeneration/John Hurt etc was a fig leaf/compromise? David Warner would have been a big name in his prime as the Doctor. I am thinking 70's to mid-80's when he was a bit younger. Realistically he would have had to have been a big screen casting choice though (The Omen/Cross of Iron/Time Bandits/Tron/Time after Time/Titanic). Like John Hurt, i think its great that Big Finish got two big names to do a run on Audio as pretty much 'authorised' versions of the Doctor. Like Tom Baker, you are free to imagine them in their prime that way.

Well, sadly he wasn't. But I want MORE! 2 box sets a year minimum. I love Warner's doc.
He's still fundamentally the same, but less nice and downright ornery in a good way. He sounds more like I suspect I would feel if I was "The Doctor": as contemptuous of bull**** as bull**** deserves. But also reasonable, endearing, and ultimately good at heart.
