Hi all, I'm planning an article to mark the 20th anniversary of Big Finish getting the Doctor Who licence. I wondered what are people's memories of important milestones? My list of ideas is (so far): Paul McGann first release Sheridan Smith first release Tom Baker joins Companion Chronicles first release New Who announced Torchwood first release River Song first release Tenth Doctor first release Licence extensions John Hurst first release Derek Jacobi first release It's not very exciting and as I wasn't around at the beginning, I thought I'd ask help. I can get dates for most of this from the website, but I was also after: - Last release on cassette
- First release on download
Really I want anything to make it more interesting and looking back over 20 years rather than focussed on the past few.
All ideas welcome!

Last on Cassette
DW MR 15 The Mutant Phase
First on DL
I'm tempted to say EDA Blood of the Daleks (newt5596 is more accurate The Condemned marks where they went DL widely)
Ideas
Evelyn
The Forge (Torchwood before Torchwood)

I know the last cassette release was The Mutant Phase and I believe the first download release was The Condemned. I know it happened sometime in 2008.

Does acknowledgement from "Night of the Doctor" count for anything? It was what finally got me to check out the audios.

The arrival and development of Evelyn is a must. She proved that new audio-only companions could work.

Sixie's regeneration in The Last Adventure was a big thing IMO
Also Jago & Litefoot, arguably the greatest DW spin off EVER

The Light at the End really put the company on the map beyond the niche and really brought it to my attention beyond a passing glance.

Torchwood Series 5 with blessings and guidance from RTD is quite important I think and if you have any questions regarding Torchwood in general, I'm more than happy to help.

Dust Breeding introducing the Beevers Master to Big Finish. Also the Doctor Who that brought Caroline John back to Who. Big Finish influences the television revival by having Jubilee & Spare Parts adapted for the TV show proper. I would also agree with the above mention of The Night of the Doctor being a big deal for Big Finish as the TV show made the audio adventures canon. I would also think Gary Russell leaving and Nick Briggs taking over is something of a milestone.

Oh and what was the episode of BF Doctor Who that pushed BF past the BBC as producing more episodes of the show?

I'm not sure if this is worth anything more than a footnote, but I can remember finding Big Finish because of a mention in the foreword to the 2006 Annual. The "Etra Prime Incident" of The Apocalypse Element being an important touchstone to NuWho's Time War myth arc at the time. Without that very tacit bit of intertextuality at the very beginning of the current series' run, I might not have found the company (and the company ^_^).
More broadly... The introduction of imitators like Tim Treloar or David Bradley into the full-cast positions of the Doctor (with mention of Jon Culshaw's brief cameo as the Fourth Doctor in The Kingmaker preceding that).
The Lost Stories as a range that rescued long-languishing television scripts that had fallen to the wayside (special mention to Night Thoughts). It blurred the lines between televised and audio Who in a way never quite done before at that point.
The first spin-off from the Doctor Who licence, outside of Bernice Summerfield retroactively (I want to say Dalek Empire?).
The Benny Summerfield releases acting as precursor to the full thing (employing actors like Nicholas Courtney and Colin Baker, known to the series for their iconic roles).

The first spin-off of Doctor Who (Dalek Empire or Sarah Jane Smith, depending on if a spin-off only counts if it’s about an individual) The first 50 Main Range going download only Jago & Litefoot in The Companion Chronicles (the first time taking one-off characters from a TV story and making them the focus, which wound up launching a highly successful spin-off series that the Doctor and other Whoniverse characters would guest star in)

Lots of good ideas here. On the topic of BF companions I'm actually minded to do a separate piece on them as there are so many and dealing with them all fairly would swamp the rest of the article. It's a long list: - All of Paul McGann's companions from Charlie to Bliss
- Evelyn
- Flip
- Thomas Brewster
- Constance
- Ann Kelso
- Erimem
- Hex
- The Graceless twins
