I don’t recall seeing Dreyfus slagging off big finish I think he tagged Briggs in a post basically asking him to stop the big finish fans from sending abusive messages I can't say I remember every instance, but he definitely had a problem with not being in Masterful.

Honestly, the "surprise appearance" is probably the easiest option - no appearance on the cover or in the cast, just his name in the credits read after the last episode, like [REDACTED], [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] in Legacy of Time.

I think BF need to be open about the fact he's in it, simply because there's a vocal segment of the community who won't buy a release with Dreyfus in - if you hide the fact he appears until they listen to it, they'll be furious.

The thing is, he got paid for his appearance four years ago, regardless of who purchases what.

Personally, if I were Big Finish I’d just stick Dreyfus Master on the cover without crediting him like what they’ve done with the second series of Jenny. You’re going to get backlash regardless so might as well get it out of the way.

You’re going to get backlash regardless so might as well get it out of the way. It's a strange world we live in where a backlash from the Facebook and Twitter idiots is enough to scare companies from releasing stuff they have already recorded. James Dreyfus was employed by Big Finish to play a part, he played the part, and got paid for it... who buys or doesn't buy the story won't make any difference to Mr Dreyfus, as you're not hurting him or his wallet. Not employing him in the future is the way to go.
Pretending James Dreyfus wasn't in a release by airbrushing him out of it or cancelling it is very Stalin-istic!

Tell me about it. Social media is a poison at the best of times.

This will be the Weeping Angels third appearance with a classic Doctor, right? It will, but it’s the first time a new series element has crossed over into an ongoing classic range. The Classic Doctors, New Monsters sets were put into production quickly to capitalise on acquiring the new series licence, as the other ranges are planned in advance. There’s Weeping Angels and River Song in the Doom Coalition saga, but I think that’s a little on the fence. Of course, it’s all one show, but I would consider this the first proper new series element in a classic series range. I'd say the main questions are: is it consistent with what else has occurred in episodes? Probably...but how much so is iffy. I can't recall him acting completely shocked in his bits in Blink. But in The Time of Angels / Flesh and Stone, he didn't know all that much. Had to consult the book of mad writings or whatever it was supposed to be.
As long as earlier doctors don't know more it should work. Or the dreaded memory wipe.

In The Time of Angels he said he met them "once a long time ago" or something like that. But honestly, that means no extra Angel stories prior to Series 5, and that ship has definitely sailed in the EU, in both comics and audios. So, *shruuuuuug*.

I really hope his story will be released even if he is never asked back I really want to hear this last story with him and Tom I definitely think it's Blood of the Time Lords, but I wonder if the Master will now be played by Milo Parker or Geoffrey Beevers. Not just because of the politics and optics around Dreyfus, but he's also slagged off BF again and again on Twitter. Parker and Beevers are also vastly better actors (and Masters). I'd much prefer one of them to be in it, if possible, though I understand the realities of such an extensive re-edit would make it difficult to pull off.

Agree to disagree there bud Beevers is a good master but his appearance would contradict the fourth Doctor series 1 finale two parter Hopefully they haven’t recasted JD him in the audio

You're right, though, any Master story in that time period would have to star a pre-Crispy Master. (Although I guess there IS a pre-Crispy Geoffrey Beevers Master that we've only seen once.)

I feel sorry for Big Finish. Whatever they do, however they handle this they will be criticised.
I don’t know what James Dreyfus has said to make him persona-non-grata, and I don’t really want to know, all I care about are these Fourth Doctor Adventure boxsets.
So it is a shame that I am waiting for the Master’s introduction with a degree of apprehension…but then perhaps that is fitting for the character!
However it just seems a wasted opportunity to create a new version of the Master and then not use him ever again. Hopefully Big Finish, with future stories, can make a positive out of that negative.
