Two thoughts - I was initially dead against buying this because I have never watched it and don't need another series to follow. But it's cheap and it's by Nick who, although as I said before does tend to bagsy all the plum new writing assignments, is a top notch writer so I would be pretty confident this will be good. Maybe, just maybe, I might get this on DL only - the first time I would have deliberately left the CD on the shelf and bought DL only.
Second thought - With this, Terrahawks and Captain Scarlett, are we now at a tipping point where Gerry Anderson series deserve their own board or sub-board on the forum?

I've ordered the limited edition from the GA store, my only exposure to live action APF/C21 is with UFO which I rather enjoyed so presume Space 1999 is a spiritual successor to that. Either way looking forward to this, especially with Mark Bonnar in the lead role

Most of the last few pages of the BF updates thread may as well be moved here, we've been talking about this all weekend anyway!

Here's what's on the product details page on the site! - Gerry Anderson archive photo booklet
- Limited edition slipcase not available with the standard edition
- Additional download - never-before-heard Gerry Anderson interview hosted by Jamie Anderson and Nicholas Briggs.
- And a digital version of the story available via BigFinish.com.

Slipcase with alt-artwork, photobooklet and a download of a never-released interview with Gerry Anderson conducted by Jamie A and Nick. You also still get the download from BF, too. International buyers may want to see if this is actually cheaper than BF with their per-order charge shop.gerryanderson.co.uk/products/space-1999-breakaway-special-edition-audio-drama-series-boxed-set

Either way looking forward to this, especially with Mark Bonnar in the lead role It's pretty different from UFO and despite looking better (well, it was the most expensive TV show in the UK at the time), isn't as popular among most GA fans as UFO was. It did get sold to more countries though so I think it's probably a bigger property in name value. They do tend to get linked I think just because of being live action Anderson more than the content or tones of the show. The characters (mostly) in S1999 are a bit more reserved despite the premise itself being outlandish. They're the Captain Scarlet to UFO's Stingray if you will. The show goes dirt cheap on bluray for the complete series quite often. Season 2 is a major misfire in a lot of ways with executives changing much on and off screen between seasons "for the better" but overall it's still worth checking out. Season 2 is almost more interesting reading about the battles behind the scenes than watching, for me anyway. Still BF are doing a re-tooling of the pilot it seems (Breakaway is the name of Ep 1 of the TV show) so we're a ways away from the later stuff anyway.

Second thought - With this, Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlett, are we now at a tipping point where Gerry Anderson series deserve their own board or sub-board on the forum? Terrahawks (which I guess is what you meant) was pretty much me and Kenny posting on one thread, hardly any traffic and Captain Scarlet even less than that given it compiled mostly 50 year old material rather than anything fresh (even the Spectrum Files were based on books rather than new stories) so there's never really been much demand. I think this'll be the first GA property that gets discussed much. In fact over the weekend alone it probably got more chatter than Terrahawks and Scarlet combines. I guess that's the benefit of rebooting it, you're not asking anyone unfamiliar to take too much of a leap. When BF released an ep of Terrahawks free, some posters had zero idea what was going on, who was who and were not exactly enticed to buy more, starting fresh with S1999 seems a safer bet.

Thanks for pointing that out - I will edit my original post
I haven't really read the other threads - I just like a bit of order and structure rather than a big bucket "Worlds of BF" with everything lumped in together. Much easier to find things

Thunderbirds was off the table when Nick asked because ITV were doing a new one so I'd imagine the same thinking works here. Though according to that page, it was mentioned as recently as less than a year ago as still being a go-er....I'll believe it when I see it. Catherine Schell (who we all remember as Countess Scarlioni in City Of Death) as Maya is the shapeshifter you remember. Some fans think she's the best thing to come from the poor second season but to me she was a very generic sci-fi character with nothing to add to stories. Cast purely for aesthetic reasons when Lew Grade and co decided to get Fred Freiberger in to make the show "more American". She's a stock character who could have been in just about any space opera of the era but was mooted to get a spinoff if S1999 got a third season. Regardless Maya is not in the era of the show BF are doing just now anyway.

Well now you've sold me on picking up the show as well! Enjoy! There's a bonus feature on the complete series that takes a Season 2 ep (Seed Of Destruction) and re-edits it to make it more like a Season 1 ep. That's how different it got between seasons.

If anyone is thinking about buying the Limited Edition from the Gerry Anderson Store, it's worth bearing in mind that the discount codes from the early days of The Benji & Nick Show podcast still work

It's not really that much cheaper. A couple of AU$ (if you use the 10% off code). If you buy a few items at once from BF the per order charge spreads out so that it's actually cheaper. The GA version does come with extras the BF version doesn't have. Depends what you're after, I suppose EDIT: I'll probably get the BF version, but I might wait to see if there's a bundle offer later on with Breakaway and the first box set next year.

I am really going back & forth on this one. The 11 year old me that was starved for something to take the place of Star Trek on TV is really excited for it versus the 55 year old me who looks back and sees that a lot of it was pretty average. Still, Breakaway was one of the first season's best episodes and the concept is still so bonkers & ridiculous that it is probably worth a go to see how Nick reshapes it.
