Okay, I thought that the Eleven was the way he was because of all the voices but the Nine (and the Twelve to a lesser extent, even without her moderator) seems to have greater control over the voices (don’t get me wrong, the Nine is still “bananas” but he’s not constantly arguing with himselves, and it’s usually (helpful or otherwise) suggestions (or Six just wanting to kill something) when they do speak for the Nine, rather than trying to take control like with Eleven.
I seem to have missed the story with the Eight, what was he like? Twelve calls him “sweetness itself” but do his other selfs still talk to him and others?
and finally, do others hear the voices? When Liv encountered the “cured” Eleven he’s talking to himself so Liv assumes he’s talking to his other selfs, but surely she’d have heard the others speaking? Nine also responds and doesn’t respond to the voices in the Eleven during “The Odds Against”, he replies to the eleven telling his Nine to shut up with “but I didn’t say anything” but also does converse with them (such as introducing themselves).

It could be argued that the Nine has more control over his other personalities because he comes so soon after the Eight, who was the first incarnation that attempted to control them through meditation - at least, from what I understood. So, he already comes from a stronger basis of suppressing his former incarnations than perhaps his earlier or later incarnations because that was more recent for him. But, since the Nine is also a stronger personality than the Eight, he also had more control over the other personalities. By the time of the Eleven, maybe the fact that there are a few more personalities to deal with as well as the long period of time since the Eight, the Eleven’s ability to suppress his former personalities’ control was weakened. Further, I think the Eleven has a somewhat “weaker” personality than his previous incarnations, which allows them more control. To me, he seems just a little bit less sure of himself and not as defined as the Nine or the Ten or the Six, for instance.

The Nine's all-consuming greed might also have something to do with his control. He might be/ have been that much more determined (even more so than The Eight) to claim a 100% share of HIS brain.

I don't know how many here are fans of Stargate SG-1, but whenever that audio distortion effect happens and one of his other voices speaks, the image I get in my head is like that Season 3 episode when an alternate universe Samantha Carter comes to our universe and starts having " entropic cascade failure." I picture it a lot like that, just with glowy orange Time Lord regeneration particle effects and the past faces appearing, before he snaps back to being the Eleven.

I find it’s difficult being a man of refinement at times. 🧐 Both are near and dear to my heart. As a 15 year fan of jojo I understand the pain the wilderness years fans felt. It’s been a tough ride. Stargate is sorely in need of its rebirth. Universe’s ending still hurts.
