With the loss of the main range and everything shifting to three or four disc box sets I wondered if there would be any place for a two disc / two hour release in the future. The sort of runtime I would associate with a feature film….and that got me thinking.
How about a Movie range where an existing tv story or stories are re-envisaged as a Hollywood movie with no consideration to the continuity and history of the show. Taking the route started by the Peter Cushion lead film Doctor Who and the Daleks.
However for these I would like to keep the Doctor of that time if possible, but have free reign to change the character and recast his companions or create completely new ones.
It would be nice to create a movie of the the relevant time or just after, with Hollywood getting the rights to adapt once the TV Doctor had departed. For example the Sixth Doctor would be late 1980’s with Samantha Fox playing his companion and with a Miami Vice pop/rock soundtrack.
The Third Doctor could face The Master, who is not just his evil brother, but his evil twin brother!
The Key to Time series is jammed into a blockbuster movie with a brand new Romana played by Grace Jones.
And for the Seventh Doctor it has to be Silver Nemesis, just because I think Big Finish could shape it into something special. And he is joined in his adventure with a girl power pop trio of Anneka, Carole-Ann and Elisabeth. Known as ACE.
So what do you want to see/hear?

I think the opening of the "box set era" is a real chance for BF to experiment with ALL sorts of formats and I think that's a freeing notion. I daresay most will be what we know - 3 or 4 story sets an hour each. Yet one discers of an hour long, two disc "movies", hey - a Dalek Master Plan epic...it should all be at least feasible. I think now BF are using a lot of characters quite often in tandem, reducing the novelty, that changing up the lengths and formats is the best way to make things feel special. A story can be as long as it needs to be rather than "Well, we have to be 2 discs long, it's the MR" etc. That's liberating and I hope we see it change strategies. The 60th would seem a natural choice for a "movie".
