River meets new characters that haven't been in Dr Who before. She has, hasn't she? There's just no fanfare when that happens. Yes she has, but the series has evolved to be more about her meeting other doctors, characters, & situations from the world of Who. & the title of this thread is 'What do we want to see in future River Song releases'.

Time Lady Lord
That sounds like a Song!
So for next year’s International Women’s Day a River Song boxset featuring female Timelords
CD1 The Twelve As played by Julia McKenzie River has met the Nine and the Eleven, plus the Twelve needs some more stories.
CD2 Drax As played by Miranda Raison A Sting like crime caper with River & Dax in the Paul Newman and Robert Redford roles.
CD3 Susan As played by Carol Ann Ford River finds herself in opposition to Susan’s diplomatic negotiations in the Time War
CD4 Trey As played by Juliet Landau A mysterious Timelord seeks out River to get her to “put wrong, past rights!” The consequences of the previous three stories means disaster to The Universe/The Doctor/This boxset without a suitable finale!

Wish we had Lalla wards Romana there or even the big finish debut of Rodin

Only if Drax, Drax and perhaps Drax are also in the Drax story. Or in all the stories running a long con on River. more Hugh Fraser is never a bad thing. And surely ... SURELY ... there’s a Dorney incarnation of Drax?

How about River meeting the Other Doctors Disk 1: The Warner Doctor Disk 2: The Valeyard Disk 3: The Next Doctor Disk 4: The Shalka Doctor And there's the Curse of Fatal Death Doctors. Or at least Rowan Atkinson's incarnation. Are they canonical? I'll explain later.

Would never happen as you said but I’d love to see Rowan Atkinson as one of the prior incarnations of the Eleven. Not sure which one but the incarnation that would allow him to channel his inner Blackadder. Even if it was for only one story.

I’d Ike to see someone our River River, someone who is so smugly superior and successful and who runs rings around her. So basically the tenth Doctor doing to her what she does to him.

I'd love to see the range separated from 'meeting the Doctor' or 'appearing in the background of a Doctor Who story'. I know lots of people have said they want to see more original characters, but I'd specifically like to see River acquire a bit more of a semi-permanent cast of regulars, and establish some kind of world around her. There have been hints in this direction, but I'd love it if they went all out and gave her a home and friends - a bit like Benny on the Braxiatel Collection.
Obviously that could become a bit of a millstone round the series' neck, but we've already seen there are lots of different phases in her life, so maybe it could just be a context that we visit every so often, every few box sets? Or just some background, so if she turns up at an archeological dig it's because Professor Thing from The Background Place has sent her there. Just a little bit of independence and consistency for the range, because I find it can feel a bit unmoored at times.

Do we really need more Mary Sues in DW though? Is that necessarily what we'd call a Mary Sue? Granted she is not as highly Sued as Clara but she does suffer from the Moffat's Tropes which yeah he had a habit of writing which kinda makes me appreciate Bill Potts more in retrospect as she diverted far from the standard Moffat companion archetype of the time

I meant: "I don't think a character who could run rings around River like she does to the Doctor" would be a Mary Sue. That seems like a big conclusion to leap to.
