Its surprising how close this is to the as seen EP.
There's 1 bit you couldn't do character wise and its a shame we don't have a full version of Nation's intended set up scene but otherwise its as it was on TV.
Having Narration Ok, Switching Narration styles, not sure. If there has to be Narration personally prefer in character style so I would've had Tom do Ep 1 the style of BBC Missing stories which is similar to what Sadie and Christopher end up doing with the brief latter EP synopsis.
A curios building block for a classic, would I swap out the TV EP 1 certainly Not!

I thought it was embarrassingly bad on the whole. Aside from pushing the boundaries of what would be acceptable at 17:15 on a Saturday part one is so close to what we saw on screen that I really don’t understand the purpose of this venture. I wasn’t keen on Nick Briggs’ narration, which felt forced, and the sound design did nothing to conjure any imagery. Regrettably I thought Tom was terrible; unengaged, hoarse sounding and echo-y - nothing was done on the production side to even make it seem otherwise. Sadie is fine with what incredibly little material she gets and surprisingly this is Christopher Naylor’s best outing as Harry, which makes me optimistic for The Ark.
The narrated parts two - six were rough too. Brief to the point of incomprehensible and performances were inconsistent. Sadie & Christopher did theirs in first person, but the others didn’t. And quite frankly I’d expect Tom to have contributed given how lightweight of a release it is.
It was always going to be a baffling release, we’ve debated that for long enough, but it’s not even a good production and that’s unforgivable.

I found it was a fairly underwhelming release.
It’s very close to what was originally broadcast, certainly not different enough to justify a release like this.
I think it would have been much better if it had been a DWM freebie.
The interview isn’t too bad though, about half way through that.

Haven’t got round to the Hinchcliffe interview yet, but the release interviews are interesting. The only way they can really justify the release is to talk about the physical script, with its typos and scribbles by Terry Nation. I don’t think that they stopped to consider the gap between what the crew are seeing and what we’re hearing as the end product; almost like they were too close to the idea to consider any external factors. Couple that with an overall shoddy production and it’s just not very good.

I'm annoyed with myself for buying this, I think its the completist in me, but I'm not buying any more lost stories after The Ark unless it's a proper lost story. It's pretty poor, I don't need another Hinchcliffe interview, I've seen so many over the years. I don't know what I was thinking

I think this is one of the worst BF releases...seriously. Am-dram episode 1 while Nick shouts off stage to set the scene...Tom sounds bored without an actual narrative and the summary of the remainin eps? This is a DWB piece from the 90s, not a BF audio at full price.
At a time when fans here...so diehards...are sayin they have to be selective due to too many releases in the current financial climate this is just SO impossibly not what should be out there. People cant keep up with REAL stories, this Shakespeare In The Park abbreviation? No...not today.

Personally, this release has brought me a lot of joy. I had been sad that I didn’t preorder these Lost Stories before the US prices went up and now I’m joyful that I didn’t.
All that said, I would be curious to hear it if only for Nick’s soundtrack. I think the soundtrack he did on Return of the Cybermen was genuinely great and probably the thing I’ve most enjoyed from him in ages. I’ve read that this one is similar.

I agonising over these releases. The collector within me wanted to order this (and the Ark) but my head (for once) beat my heart!
Now I am sad that other peoples disappointment is making me happy…which I know is a contradiction, but is the best way I can express my feelings.

Review of Daleks! Genesis of Terror has just landed at CultBox - in short: the dramatisation is interesting, the Hinchcliffe interview is fab. To be fair to prospective buyers, it's only fab if you haven't ever heard or seen an extended interview with Philip Hinchcliffe before. Otherwise its more of the same.

Just finished the first disc and I don’t think I can add much that hasn’t been said already. I think it’s telling in the BTS The Ark gets brought up more since that’s an actual original story and not Genesis but less interesting. Like you can already get all of this from the Blu ray PDF archive.

I think there's some evidence that this and "The Ark" were originally meant to be released as a boxset together (the mentions of them together in the extras for this release, the news item announcing them wrongly describing "The Ark" as a four-disc set at first) and for whatever reason this ended up being released on its own.

Actually that makes sense. as it turned they've made them individual (I suppose packaging cost/constancy) with The Ark meant to be released 1st as Genius of Terror is marked 7.2 Regards mark687

Even I a diehard Tom Baker Fourth Doctor fan boy haven't purchased this for the very reasons of @davygallagher & shallacatop thoughts about this release this sounds a half arsed pointless cash in, either do a full cast adaption or don't bother.

Haven't listened to it myself but from reading the posts I think there simply isn't enough in it to justify a release on its own. If this was included in a boxset with The Ark like The Yellow Arc of Fragrance was in the 1st Dr Lost Story boxset, ie a bonus extra in all but name, BF might have got away with it. But it seems as if there isn't enough content here to merit a standalone release and BF have implicitly recognised this themselves by including the Hinchcliffe interview.

I didn't think this was a release for me, even though it is a Dalek story. So after seeing the comments here I'm damn glad they didn't catch me with this one. It sounds dreadful. (If Davy says a story is one of the worst BF releases, then it's bad!)
What were they thinking? Oh hang on, I know .... ££££!
