Been meaning to try more Dorian (sale to coincide with anniversary please Big Finish) and this is a very handy way to get more into his universe.
Speaking of universes, ‘escape from reality’ implies the Master’s going universe-hopping, which Cyber-Reality had already hinted at…

Have to say, the logic behind this one puzzles me a bit. The previous set is a big-draw War Master/Tenth Doctor team-up, and the next one along is War Master + a literary character that most people only know of in passing / in this instance appears to be chiefly targeted at the niche Big Finish audience? And the percentage of the BF audience who is particular to Dorian, at that? That this is how the boxset is announced, but Dorian is only in one of the four episodes?
Don't get me wrong! Big DW fan, War Master fan, Dorian Gray fan, and just generally a fan of anything Scott and Alex put their hands on. This boxset is all kinds of things I want, so this is a very exciting announcement for me personally!
It's just that, for a company that's rather leaned into the 'tough business decisions' thing in recent years, I find this one a bit...out there?

The article reads a bit odd and seems to undersell the idea a bit, maybe because it’s advertising a set but making a deal out of one specific episode, but more War Master is always great! I’m not overly familiar with Dorian, but I do like the concept of the Master’s interest in him and I’m interested in the reality hopping concept. Cyber Reality has always been an oddity given how connected they’ve made the character under Big Finish, so makes me wonder if this is finally the link to that appearance.

I’m curious if there’ll be any other crossovers with classic literary characters in this set? Either way, I’m definitely excited to see where this goes.

No doubt if the other stories involve literary characters then they’ll be in the public domain. But if the Master is pursuing immortality, I could see him bumping into Ayesha.

Given the insane house price growth in Australia, the (current) thread title “Escape from Realty” gave me pause and a wry smile! 😉
Not sure what I think if this release. I bought the two set bundle, and do enjoy both the War Master and Dorian. But it’s a mashup I’m not yet convinced about. When in the Master’s timeline does it take place? Why is this the option he’s seeking? 🤷🏻♂️ I guess we’ll find out in 7 months…

It’s not mentioned in the article, but a varied writing team; Rochana Patel, Lizzie Hopley, Alfie Shaw & David Llewelyn.

I will gladly pre-order any full cast story with the BF version of Dorian Gray. Plus War Master?! You had me at hello.

The Doctor and Sherlock Holmes together shouldn’t have worked but I adore All Consuming Fire (that is possibly my most listened to Seventh Doctor story), hopefully I’ll feel the same way about this release…however the announcement hasn’t made me press that big red buy button.

The previous set is a big-draw War Master/Tenth Doctor team-up, and the next one along is War Master + a literary character that most people only know of in passing / in this instance appears to be chiefly targeted at the niche Big Finish audience? I promise I am not asking out of any sense of patronisation but its more a question to all - is this the case? I kinda have Dorian down as a rather massive piece of literature. Of Victoriana and beyond. Then my mother has always been a Wilde historian so my view may be rather skewed but the amount of adaptations from the 1945 film classic via TV with Dan Curtis, audio a million times over, comics, theatre - even Neil Gaiman did a take. I would suppose people at least know the premise? The addition of Henry makes it seem like its more the "Classics" version of Dorian than strictly the expanded one from his own series and if so, seems a familiarity with not much more than the idea would be needed. Cant really end up in a more listener-friendly War Master set than one with Tennant so the next one is always to be somewhat less commercially appealing but it could well be a terrific story anyway as you say. I think that BF may be as far in to the War Master series that they know what tips the scales of appeal beyond just "its really solid stories" and know what to add in to put a little X-Factor in. I think the worst one could toss at it is it seems Scott having his real fave toys to play with before he leaves. But with ALL he has done over the last decade plus, he deserves it. And I think it should be a fab ep.

Allow me to point out the fact that they're probably also going to throw in a bunch of other BF ranges to crossover with in this box set as well. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if this crossed over with Sherlock Holmes. It's targeting the Dorian Community because frankly we're rabid as fiddlesticks and will buy anything with his name on it, but also because this is a major anniversary so it makes sense to point out his involvement.

Honestly I was expecting something more exciting like The War Master vs The War Valeyard or War Doctor But this Boxset seems a bit like why not have this for Eric Roberts Master as his master seems more appropriate for it
Atleast this Boxset will plug in the hole that cyber reality set up even though a crossover between rose and the war master seems more logical than this
Still guess have to wait for a trailer or more details to make the appropriate judgement

To people who don't understand this, I'm just gonna say... it's the 10 year anniversary of Dorian, BF wanting to do something fun with him isn't unexpected. Also: The War Master universe hopping sounds SO good.

Wonderful to know a lot of more casual DW listeners are about to get their first Dorian fix! And of course it’s a well earned victory lap.
A friend suggested this could well involve the Land of Fiction from The Mind Robbers. In which case, the canon question is both (1) neatly avoided, and (2) deliciously complicated.
That would make this Dorian a projection of the fictional literary creation, written by canonical Confessions/Whoniverse character Oscar Wilde in a disguised biography of his “real life” immortal friend.
I do hope this means three more announcements to come. There are a few likelier candidates, but I’m making a high-odds prediction: Jekyll and Hyde.
