Does anyone think Nyssa gets overlooked as a Doctor Who companion, especially around Tegan?
I can't really be sure. But I have seen quite a few people that view her as bland and I once came across somebody that insulted her and Sarah Sutton. It regarded Time-Flight where the user said that Sarah "needed acting lessons". That is disgusting!
I personally view Nyssa and Tegan on equal terms. But what do you guys think?

Yes IMHO. The Doctor sees her as very intelligent, she is not human after all, she pretty much understands everything the Doctor says/does.

On TV Nyssa was probarly the most likable companion from his era (Tegan and Adric were irritating- Dont worry Big Finish did them justice, Kamelion was non existent, Turlough was serviceable and Peri didnt have much screentime with Davison)
i think that Nyssa worked quite well with The 5th Doctor especially in the tardis team as she felt the more competent in Season 19 but i can see why audiences would kinda prefer Tegan over her as Nyssa and 5 were similar personalities that it kinda felt a bit redundant

I’m not sure I’d say overlooked more put to better use by Big Finish.

The 6th Doctor had a whole host of issues, so this mostly hurt the 5th Doctor. Bit of his companions, I'd say Nyssa was the best. She's just... horridly under-utilized. She's better in Big Finish, but even there--of the stories I've listened to--they don't seem to do as much with her as they could or maybe should. Honestly she's a lot like Liz Shaw: a hyper competent character stuck in a role that requires little competence. If you just want someone to be threatened by enemies and prompt exposition, you don't need a Liz, you're fine with a Jo. And Nyssa always seemed to me like much. Ore of a Liz.
