Geek franchises are big money, and talking about them almost as much so. Mixed in with the usual chatter about episodes/movies and characters/lore is stocks and share values, speculation of internal company politics about execs and producers, distribution arrangements, demographics and sales numbers etc etc. which then, on occasion, leads to demands on having a say on that side of things. But is any of that really the business, or responsibility, of any fandom to care about if Disney should invest X or WB should sell Y? Is this not, in a way, corporate fanfiction?

The fans who are not in the industry should have no say in the business side.

As long as a change in policy that affects Consumers is clearly stated then all's good.

The fans who are not in the industry should have no say in the business side. Remember when Paramount showed the first sonic trailer and the huge backlash from the fans who complained about sonic’s design rather than give the middle finger to the fans and release the film with the original design They delayed the film release and redid the sonic design closer to the faithful game design version that fans loved and the movie was a success Fans definitely should have a say especially when it comes To the fans buying all the merch and basically keeping the IP profitable

On the other hand.. You have "non fans" getting involved.. as soon as I hear the usual cliche tropes "fresh/organic/the here and now"...
warning signs most times unfortunately in my experiences with IP's not involved with Who.
(Have u seen the last 2 Halloween movies? W.T.H. were they thinking..)

(Have u seen the last 2 Halloween movies? W.T.H. were they thinking..) Exactly unless the writer is a fan who respects and cares about the IP and source material they shouldn’t allow non fans to adapt or remake existing Movies/TV shows/iPs we have seen the industry butcher so many franchises over the years especially for trying to “update for modern audiences” I still remember the interview with Cavill and a writer discussing a scene from the Witcher while The writer wanted to add a meta joke to a death scene while Cavill fought for a heartfelt scene

Not that it's an invalid point, but that's more a creative question and mine is more when fans try to discuss the business side of things and go into stuff that isn't just the stories told.

Yes, I get you.. It's a fine line .. "busines wise" vs "emotion based". Honestly it's a tricky situation.
