I did not expect Martin in the jury given his small number of BF credits (although I really enjoyed his Kamelion script) but it's nice to see new faces. Was he involved in more BF productions? Surprisingly he's still only listed as Assistant Producer on Peladon, Companion Chronicles 2nd Doc Vol 3 and the TBR Fugitive Doctor Boxset Regards mark687

Hi all,
Just popping in to say best wishes and happy writing for anyone who is entering this year's Paul Spragg competition. Even if you don't win or place, flexing one's creative muscles and crafting a synopsis and first 500 words is definitely an achievement in itself!
As a side note, I was interested to hear about the requirement to only pick the First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, or Eighth Doctor. In my view, it does make things slightly trickier for entrants, especially if none of those Doctors are among your favourites (or otherwise, if you aren't into the 'Classic' Doctors as much). Interestingly, the rules state that entrants can still use any classic companions apart from K9 and The Brigadier. So technically, you could have the Eighth Doctor popping in to say 'hello' to Ian and Barbara, or something!
All the best, Eugenie

Every year I keep thinking I'll have a go....and every year my inner critic keep finding reasons not to.
Perhaps..next year...🤦♂️
Anyway, good luck to all who are braver than me and submitting a story.

Bets thing to tell that critic is the worst they can do is say no, and that a no from one person isn't the final word on your ability as a storyteller.
Here's to next time.

Just sent in my entry. It's the first time in a few years I've been brave enough to submit something. I'm sure there'll be a good batch of entries this year.

Morning!
Hope you're all writing/have written and happy with what you've done
I've got my opening done and my synopsis on the way and this year, for the first time, I'm feeling like I'm onto a winner lol
Good luck everyone and even if you don't win, you get a story out of it

Hi, These instructions are a bit confusing:
6. The email entry: must include the story title in the email Subject line must include, in the body of the email, the entrant’s full name and a contact email address. The attached synopsis/excerpt document must NOT include personally identifying details (for example, name or email address), or the entry will be disqualified. By submitting an entry to the competition address, entrants are confirming they have agreed to the full terms and conditions.
Do they want the title in the subject line?

Story title in the subject line, name and contact email address in the the body of the email.

I fell out of love with my original vision, so I've spent this evening completely rewriting my entry, and I think this new version is much more imaginative. I'll read through it a few more times and make some more edits and then I think it'll be ready to be sent off. Good luck to everyone participating this year. Now the long wait begins!

Sent in my submission first thing this morning! Did a last read-through for any errors or other things I may have missed. This year, I had a handful of ideas to start out with, and it was difficult thinking of a story for them. So I told myself I need to focus on one and stick with it for a while and see what comes to mind. Of course, I also thought of adding in elements of the other ideas, as long as they don't seem forced I was surprised what I was able to come up with though! I ended up liking it quite a bit, and I hope they enjoy reading the entry as well. Worst case scenario, if it doesn't win, I feel I have a solid short story I can write.

A little belated, but hey, DONE for another year.
All the best to everyone who did send, and if you couldn't make it, commiserations and don't beat yourself up too hard. It's a process.

Just out of interest, does anyone know how this compares to previous years? Purely for curiosity's sake I find myself wondering if the narrowing of possible Doctors (which happened to restrict them to the post-2005 era) made any difference to the number of entrants. Not that it truly matters - it just takes one rather wonderful idea...
