I was wondering if we can compile a list of classic companions able to return to the current show.
Rule 1 must be original actor, not a recast
Rule 2 character must be alive or at least have an ambiguous last known status, for example Leela last seen on Gallifrey.
Rule 3 TV continuity only
Off the top of my head there's
Ace Tegan Mel
Ian, Susan Jaime Jo Leela, Romana 2, K9 Nyssa, Turlough, Peri

I would add Polly and Zoe to the list. As far as I am aware their fates are very much ambiguous in TV continuity and both Anneke and Wendy are in good health.
Ian on the other hand I would take off the list. Sadly William Russell's condition and age makes a return to TV highly unlikely, so I'm happy enough to nuture the seed that RTD planted at the end of Death of the Doctor: that the Chestertons are still very active in the teaching profession in Cambridge; defying their age, full of youthful energy and undoubtedly imbuing their Science and History lessons with a little first hand experience..

Sorry Polly and Zoe, totally slipped my mind, must be because of next months 2nd Doctor and older Jaime set. No excuses for missing Vikki and Steven, I've not long listened to the Daleks Master Plan as well!

Also idk if she counts as a classic companion and it would all depend on rights be sorted out but grace. I think Grace counts, shame about the rights issue though. Surely it's better to make a small amount of money than withhold the rights over something as niche as The TV Movie. I imagine it's only Big Finish that would have a realistic interest in the character.

It's Doctor Who. They all can. Time travel.
