Since the announcement of the ending of The Diary of River Song with Volume 12, I’ve increasingly been thinking about the potential of a River Song spinoff for streaming and its likelihood. In my opinion, River is easily one of the most sensible choices, and is a character that could easily lead her own TV show, no thanks to Alex Kingston. I’m curious what others think, and if true, what would they want to see?

Myself, I see a lot of potential in a a Loki-esque time hopping arc, but I imagine there is a lot of scope something more episodic as well. Hopefully they would get the chance to combine some Who monsters with original monsters etc.

I honestly don’t see any past characters getting a spin-off unless they’ve already been reintroduced in a new episode. Both SJA and Torchwood spun off from series 2 stories, and I’d imagine that’s the kind of thing we’d get this time around. By the time Ncuti gets his first episode, it’ll have been eight years since River was last seen, so I just think the moment has passed.
Who knows, maybe Moffat will include her in his series 14 episode and it’ll come from that, but I honestly doubt it. Also worth noting that Nick has denied that the ending of the Diary of River Song series is because of a TV spin-off.

He also says he doesn't know about RTD's plans for spin-offs, and he could just have avoided the question entirely rather than expressly denying it. I think we can take him at face value.

So you know hes lying how? Regards mark687 When did I say "hes lying"? Didn't you say that he wasn't allowed to admit what he knew? And he definitely said he didn't know anything. So, if he knew something but said he didn't, that's a lie, right? Unless he doesn't know anything, in which case they can't have told him not to say anything, because then he'd know there ws something to say, even though he didn't know what it was.
More to the point, is the casual audience likely to be interested in a River Song tv show? Does the character have the same mileage with the general public as it does with fans? What can River do that the Doctor can't? I'm highly sceptical that there are going to be *any* of the kind of spinoff some fans envisage.

If I thought he was definitely lying I would have said so. Seems like some people here are trying to start an argument with me? Stop picking on me.

"The Range Ends but we're still using the character and working with Alex" Of course they are. There's plenty of scope for more adventures...
There's the character X meets River Song adventures... then Y meets River Song for some thrilling adventures, followed by Z meets River Song in an exciting adventure... and then a super duper box set where X,Y & Z all meet River Song together!!!
Never fear Big Finish fans, River Song is going nowhere...
